Hey guys

Lately every time i go jamming with some friends of mine i get alittle bored
They are not the best out there but they are my friends so its still fun and i dont bring alot of expectations... but for how long can you play 12 bar blues!?

And thats dear GMCers why im here taking your precious time. happy.gif

I was hoping you can suggest me some jamming ideas (something like 12 bar blues)
Maybe something you can do over different time signatures?
or maybe an easy modal progression? different styles ?

So if you have something we can pick up easily please share

Thanks in advance

Dreadlock

Hello Dreadlocks! I think I am the last person to say anything on this matter as I don't play in a band but I have one idea which might work. It is actually very simple and well, maybe too trivial. How about try this: pick a simple song with your mates that you all like, learn its chord progression (hopefully not 12 bar blues biggrin.gif) and instead of playing the song, just play your own melodies and own ideas. Hopefully you guys will come up with something entirely different than the original song.. How does it sound?? Apologies if this is too stupid biggrin.gif

PS: By the way, look at it from the bright side: You know people to jam with!! If only I had some friends to jam with, I would be fine with 12 bar blues till the end of the world tongue.gif

Man, frankly speaking - the BESt way to build up ideas and even memorable solos by jamming, would be entering in a collab smile.gif Really now - you need to deliver a nice solo, based on given premises and having a fixed deadline wink.gif

Thanks Opetholic for reminding meto take a look at the bright side wink.gif It is realy not something i take for granted i remember how i used to wise for someone to jam with.

Your advice is dead on but most of the common songs we all know are in the classical rock genre and a few others but they are all simple and too majorE if you waht i mean maybe its just me but these songs always force me to use the minor pentatonic and the major scale randomly, while what im lookning for is something more challengeing theoretically that include some intresting guidelines such as bossa nova that switches the bass between the 3hd and 5th and the blues with its shuffle feel and blue notes etc.. Sorry i cant get it clearer for you guys.. (english language sleep.gif )

And for cosmin biggrin.gif
I was tempted to sign up for the collab but I dont have any recording software..
If you are willing to have me without one you can count me in
smile.gif

P.S about my personal plan I was snowboarding in austria, working on getting you the results you deserve for your time

The good news is you can get recording software for free smile.gif

http://www.reaper.fm/

You can record in to your computer using a cable that costs 38 Euro smile.gif

http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_ucg102.htm

Cosmin has a good point about the collab smile.gif It will force you to learn clever things to play and you'll get feedback from folks along the way and from the instructor at the end.

As far as adding BOSO NOVA / Jazzy bits, and such smile.gif A guy I played with from a band called "Atheist" ( I played with him in "Gnostic") was one of the first guys to to start doing "Death Jazz" and combining heavy bits with jazz bits. Of course other folks were doing something similar somewhere I"m sure. I'd say go listen to the first three ATHEIST albums online or youtube and just play along by ear. You'll get tons out of it smile.gif

Also check out this video by CYNIC. They go from very interesting jazzy clean bits to intense crazy bits with grace and ease.

http://youtu.be/xcF6r4QVSXM

Of course all this is "metal" ish stuff but there's a world full of music to explore smile.gif The best way to not get bored playing is often to stop playing things that you find boring. I know that sounds silly, but it's true smile.gif So maybe write some new chord progressions using some new scales you've just learned from the scale generator, invent some new bits on the fly, you may have to be the one to push your band, but it might be worth it smile.gif

Hi mate, I understand what you mean. There are lots of possibilities to add to your jams. You can take popular songs, play them without vocals and jam over it. For example, you can play something like this (All along the watchtower).

and use it for jamming.

There are lots of songs by guitarists like Joe Satriani, Petrucci, Steve Vai, Kotzen, Greg Howe, that you can learn and use for jamming.

Besides this, you can also use the Fake Book which includes Jazz Standards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fake_book) combined with the knowledge shared in these great series:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lessonseries/Jazz-Notes/

You can also learn backings from GMC lessons and play them with your friends. The cool side is that the lessons includes the theory behind those chords and the scales that you can use.

Thank you Todd Gab
I'm a huge metal fan (and wondering how i never heard about such as awesome band as CYNIC, thanks you)
but my friends are not even a tiny bit smile.gif hehe.

What gab said about using the GMC backing tracks sounds SUPER!
becuase of the detailed theory explanations in each lesson.

About songs such as "all along the watch tower" except for the key and the chords which are usualy simple ones i dont know much about what to play on them which notes to outline and so on..

I think i've found what i've been looking for Thanks again

P.S curious about this "Death Jazz" biggrin.gif going to check it out

Snowboarding in Austria sounds amazing! No rush man, enjoy your holiday and come back with your batteries filled! biggrin.gif Let me know when you are ready, aye?

About the recording software - I'm afraid that it's necessary to have the possibility of submitting a solo (guitar only) track and pictures of yourself or a video if you can shoot one. All the necessary details are in here on the first page: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...t=0&start=0

If you have the means, please join us! biggrin.gif

Nice to know this mate! I would really like to know how your friends took this idea and what happens in the next jam sessions. Please share the experience here! smile.gif
