Man, frankly speaking - the BESt way to build up ideas and even memorable solos by jamming, would be entering in a collab

The good news is you can get recording software for free
http://www.reaper.fm/ You can record in to your computer using a cable that costs 38 Euro http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_ucg102.htm Cosmin has a good point about the collab It will force you to learn clever things to play and you'll get feedback from folks along the way and from the instructor at the end. As far as adding BOSO NOVA / Jazzy bits, and such A guy I played with from a band called "Atheist" ( I played with him in "Gnostic") was one of the first guys to to start doing "Death Jazz" and combining heavy bits with jazz bits. Of course other folks were doing something similar somewhere I"m sure. I'd say go listen to the first three ATHEIST albums online or youtube and just play along by ear. You'll get tons out of it Also check out this video by CYNIC. They go from very interesting jazzy clean bits to intense crazy bits with grace and ease. http://youtu.be/xcF6r4QVSXM Of course all this is "metal" ish stuff but there's a world full of music to explore The best way to not get bored playing is often to stop playing things that you find boring. I know that sounds silly, but it's true So maybe write some new chord progressions using some new scales you've just learned from the scale generator, invent some new bits on the fly, you may have to be the one to push your band, but it might be worth it Todd QUOTE (dreadlocks @ Jan 1 2014, 01:28 PM)  Thanks Opetholic for reminding meto take a look at the bright side It is realy not something i take for granted i remember how i used to wise for someone to jam with. Your advice is dead on but most of the common songs we all know are in the classical rock genre and a few others but they are all simple and too majorE if you waht i mean maybe its just me but these songs always force me to use the minor pentatonic and the major scale randomly, while what im lookning for is something more challengeing theoretically that include some intresting guidelines such as bossa nova that switches the bass between the 3hd and 5th and the blues with its shuffle feel and blue notes etc.. Sorry i cant get it clearer for you guys.. (english language  ) And for cosmin  I was tempted to sign up for the collab but I dont have any recording software.. If you are willing to have me without one you can count me in P.S about my personal plan I was snowboarding in austria, working on getting you the results you deserve for your time |

Hi mate, I understand what you mean. There are lots of possibilities to add to your jams. You can take popular songs, play them without vocals and jam over it. For example, you can play something like this (All along the watchtower).
and use it for jamming. There are lots of songs by guitarists like Joe Satriani, Petrucci, Steve Vai, Kotzen, Greg Howe, that you can learn and use for jamming. Besides this, you can also use the Fake Book which includes Jazz Standards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fake_book) combined with the knowledge shared in these great series: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/lessonseries/Jazz-Notes/ You can also learn backings from GMC lessons and play them with your friends.
