Gibson Les Paul Standard - Neck Question, 50's / 60's

I've been checking eBay and noticed there seems to be two predominate types of necks - 50's and then 60's styles. Anyone have any experience with this? I found a super nice Standard - 60's style neck - with a desert burst finish and burstbuckers near my home town for $1700 USD.
