Thanks.
You have to play one to appreciate them.
I can't believe I used to throw their catalogs away thinking they were junk.

Thats a lot of knobs and switches on the last one. What are they for? (except tone/voL)

Two toggles are for splitting the humbuckers to single coil.
On the guitar with three toggles the 3rd is a Phase switch.
The two knobs closest to the pick-ups are Volume and tone.
On the guitars with 4 knobs, the other two are for tone (bass boost/treble boost) the active pick-up option.
When you pull the volume knob out the pick-ups are passive like a regular electric, when you push it in the pick-ups are active.
Go to www.carvin.com and check out the DC400 model, it explains it.

The only problem is, unless you live in California you can't often find one at a store to try one.
There are so many different options, some that may be good for you, some may not.
You could actually play one optioned with a fretboard radius and neck profile you hate.
I got lucky and the first one I played was PERFECT and let me know what to look for.
Study up on them before you buy.

Do they sound different enough to owe 3 of them, or you just like to collect them?

The red one has C series pick-ups and the green one has M series, so yes they sound alot different.
The Purple one also has M series, but my logic is....
I'll keep the two higher optioned ones (Purple and Red) at home and use the green one for taking out to music stores and travel.

awsome guitars, i love the paintjobs on all of them. I guess you like carvins as much as i like schecter.. ive never bought 3 schecters in 3 weeks tho
congrats on the gear
I was very impressed by a couple of neck thru Schecters (C1s I believe) at the local music store, one had a pair of Duncans and the other EMGs (I don't like active only pick-ups as much).
It played & sounded very nice, but was a little heavier than I would like, plus I am in my Carvin phase

Awesome, congratulations mate
Looks really great, I like the red one the most though
..and you beat me by getting 3 guitars in 3 weeks, awesome
I only bought 3 guitars in 4 or 5 weeks a while ago
You know how it is, they all have their own vibe and feel, I love them all.
Now I am thinking about another amp.

You got that right.
I am an all or nothing type of guy.
I only like to have one sports car at a time and one brand of guitar.
I chipped in with my daughter and bought her a Brand New Mustang GT, but I don't even want to drive it unless it is raining and I don't want my car to get dirty.
I can't like two different things at the same time.

Selling the Les Paul was tough, but it was not the most comfortable guitar to play.

It all depends on what you like playing.
Les Pauls sound great, but they are bulkier and not as easy to access the lower frets.
The Carvin DCs are slimmer and make playing down low a pleasure.
Soundwise the Carvins can do Les Paul or Strat type of sounds, they are very flexible, but have their own voice also.
