You're able to do more things on guitar,I believe that's the reason.

cuz I can hear it ? About the bass not being melodic... Check out the bass lines from Rise Against. I like those bass lines a lot. My brother plays the bass. And sometimes I pick it up, and just play a little. It's nice But I like the guitar more... Maybe that's because I don't excactly know how to play the bass good.
