A Small Beginner Problem, Tapping problem

I was going to learn a beginner tapping lesson and the instructor got loud and nice sounds from his tapping, it was like exactly as if he would have strummed the note. Now my guitar only makes a small noise that then fades away very quickly when I tap it, to make as loud sounds as the instructor I would have to tap very very hard. Posts: 866 Joined: 6-February 09 From: Manchester, UK	Just a few things I've found - beside the setting (drive/gain always help of course) but you should be able to tap on clean and produce a note that is as loud as one that is plucked.. just as you've described. There are two things that I think about 1) imagine tapping "through" the fretboard. Somehow this way of thinking enables me to tap a note with good volume without whacking the strings and using an undue amount of energy 2) Force = mass x acceleration. The more force applied to the tap, the cleaner and louder the note will sound. So one thing is the mass - I think this ties in with point #1, by having a relaxed approach, more of the natural weight of the hand will be transferred to the strings rather than tension taking away any of the necessary impact. The other is acceleration. This I find useful to think about - to me it means that I can tap from a close position to the string and achieve a good sound because with a short, snappy "accelerated" movement I'll get a clear note without a lot of effort i.e. I don't have to pull my finger away to "gear up" for attack, a short and quick movement and it will ring out nicely. If I tried the same in slow motion I'd get next to nothing. Hope this helps and I haven't overcomplicated matters. Just thought I'd share my thoughts on the matter Happy practicing PS: You'll need to build a little bit of a callus on your tapping finger.
