Seejays topic on drunken band members got me thinking on My Embarrassing Moment. I've already fessed up to falling over my own amp as the most embarrassing thing I have done, there are probably more but that one just kind of blots out the others.
So come on you lot. We ALL must have had something go wrong on stage and ended up with egg on our faces.
I've told you mine (can you believe I am blushing now, just thinking about it) So let's have your examples of when Sods Law knocked the wind out of your sails. smile.gif smile.gif

When I played classical guitar on stage, I had to make a quick shift with my left hand, which made my fingers slipper on the fretboard, which made a terrible sound and made me stop for a few seconds.

Hello there and welcome smile.gif Thats an easy thing to have happen. You are referring to the screech of your fingers along the strings? Don't worry about it, though it can be very off putting when you hear it amplified for the first time.
It will improve in time and I am sure as you grow more confident and relaxed in your playing things like that will disappear.
Of course then you will have lots more opportunities to act like a klutz as I did and I am sure everyone else on here did too.

I have an embarassing moment to share, but it's not music related... Sorry!
During an English Oral mock exam in high school, I was facing my young female teacher one on one. She gave me an examination sheet at the begining of the interview.
I was very nervous, but somehow I managed to finish my presentation.
At the end as she was looking down at a sheet on her desk, she reached out her hand, and so I shook it.
Then she burst into laughter telling me she only wanted her paper back.
She was still laughing hard when I was leaving the room.

Hi Lexman, that is so funny but I can see how that could happen. Exam nerves are dreadful but I bet you passed your test. Your English is excellent and thanks for sharing that. I shall be smiling about that all day smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

the most embarrissing moment in my musical history was when we played at a local semi private summer party. there were about 150 people there and we were the only band. we really rocked and it was a great gig until we reached our 4th song. it has a part were i use the whammy bar quite heavy and this time I managed to break a string and the guitar went totally out of tune. Normal this is no problem because I always have a second guitar with me but this day I didn´t (I just thought I never needed one before and we didn´t have so much space in the car so I left it at home). To make the whole deal perfect I had the packages with the new strings in the other guitar case.
At the end all the guests were really pissed and we didn´t get money and had to sneak out and leave the party. I felt like the greatest idiot on earth. Fortunately I had great band members at the time and over a few beers we could "forget" the whole story and go on with our musical life......

but I learned my lesson and now have everything double checked before we go to a gig.

A fine example of Sods Law at work. smile.gif smile.gif The ONE time you didn't carry spares and ,of course, that is the time you needed them!
A valuable lesson though. I have a grab bag (actually a small aluminium case) stuffed with Fuses, Valves, cables and some tools that I always take with me. I keep spare sets of strings in all my guitar cases so I always have them with me. I also have a wind up flashlight in there too as it can be very dark in the wings.
I suppose that having something like that happen to you is part of the learning process and means, as you rightly say, that in future you are better prepared. Thank you Wollace for sharing that. smile.gif

We wentt play at a big Party in someones back garden. He'd built a little Drum Riser and planted pyrotechnics all over the place. We set up all out gear, my amp was on, my pedalboard was on, I turned up my guitar, hit the opening chord and......

NOTHING!!!!
Not a sound.

I started swearing at the Amp, at my Pedals and at anything else I could.

I looked down at the floor and saw a mettallic glint which turned out to be my Jack Cable.

I HADN'T PLUGGED MY GUITAR IN!!!

I remember some embarrassing moments on stage with a cover band that used to play every weekend at a very cool rocker place similar to The Roxy. They used to play many classic rock songs and members from local bands used to join in some songs. I joined them many times to play Ramones and Gun's & Roses songs. Most of the times there were 3 or 4 guitars on stage and it was very difficult to hear yourself playing in all that wall of guitars. I remember one day that I played half of the song with the cable disconnected and I didn't noted it! tongue.gif It was like a playback hahahaha

Oh dear! The most basic error to make (and the easiest) and it has to happen in public, doesn't it. Just goes to show how the power of inanimate objects to out wit us is never to be underestimated! smile.gif smile.gif
