Hey guys,

I'm wondering about the Mesa/Boogie Studio .22. I see one for sale on the local kijiji site. I don't have an amp now, and figure this would be a good bedroom/apartment amp. Does anyone who have used this amp have any comments on it?

I have never used that one, so I can't really say much about the amp. Don't you have a chance to try it in some local music store? Like this you can get an impression yourself.

It seems like a good amp. I agree with Marcus tho, it is best to try it out. Do you know how old it is and how much it costs?

It was made in the 80's, and was their first low wattage tube amp (22W, totally stock). They don't make them anymore, and the dude was $625 CDN (which is kinda high for me at the moment so hopefully he'll take 500-550).

I'm going to make sure it works, but that's about it. I'm not very good at dialing in a sound anyway, as long as I get that Mesa distortion, I think I'll be alright.

It seems like a cool amp. With 22W you will not have too much headroom, which means a lot of clean channel will be a bit crunchy on high volumes (for studio work etc), but for home practicing it's great.

Its should be a good amp , but you have to try it...And don't be affraid to tweak it a bit to see if (it works properly) and how you like its sound...If you don't like tweaking ask the guy to show/demo for you how it plays (clean and dist)...

I'm not sure of what kind of Mesa dist we are talking about,
if you're looking for "Petrucci" Mesa gain
that you will not get straight it from Studio 22,
it's pretty older amp comparing to New Metal Age
but it still works nice and has descent amount of gain, my friend has one tho.
Try before buy, no doubt. smile.gif

This is my 5:50, all knobs on 12 'o clock (volume @ 10 'o clock), 5W - burn setting. The mic is about 4 ft away from the cab on a -20dB attenuation. I know it's not the right spot, but I wanted to put the volume on half as well, but it was too loud for where I was sitting (yes, on 5W, not 50W).

I'm playing withOUT a guitar pick, but you get the idea. This is just to show how much distortion this amp has, it's crazy! GOOD BYE UBER METAL PEDAL (although you had a good noise gate).

Sounds very nice! It's not too greasy, more like a rock type of drive, but sounds cool nevertheless! smile.gif

Sounds raw and pure, congrats on new amp! smile.gif

Have you tried with higher gain settings, is it too noisy etc?

Thanks guys, It's great all around. I was just trying to get a baseline for those who have never heard the amp.

I'm currently down in my room ready to try some other sounds, higher gain, maybe try scooping the mids, etc.. I'll post those too.

Hey guys, here are a couple more.

I haven't perfected any tones yet... there are so many knobs! haha This outlines how the amp sounds fairly good though. Tonight I get to read the owners manual.

BTW: Recording with a Blue Snowball USB mic
