Hi there, everyone.
This is my first post in a series which will break down the fundamentals of the techniques of your favorite guitarists. Because I've been working on it myself, I thought I would start with James Hetfield, guitarist for Metallica. His techniques vary, so I'm going to focus on to primarily: His signature "Machine Gun" riffs, and his chromatic riffs.

The first one is a "Machine Gun" riff similar to the song "One":

You can repeat that as much as you like. It's best set to a double bass beat.

The next riff is more of a gallop picking style. It's similar to the song "Battery"

This lick is like "All Nightmare Long" The second triplets in the beginning are 16th note triplets. Accentuate the other notes by playing them slower. This is at a high tempo again.

[16ths] [16ths] [16ths]

This last lick is played with a wah pedal. Push forward on the chords, and push back on the low E's. You should get a sound that is similar to "Cyanide".

These should all be played with the same settings:
Drive:8
Low:7
Mid:2
High:6
Reverb:1

Great topic mate.I'v just look at the video you uploaded.I think you need to practice more with metronome,so you stay in rhythm even if there is not any rhythm instrument(drums or any other beat machine).I ma not guitarist so my advice my not stand here,but I think your right hand is a bit stiff.You need to relax the muscles so you would not get tired easily.
Lesson topic is good and very useful for rhythm guitar playing.

Yes, i could use more rythym work. Does anyone know where to find really easily malleable (changeable) drum patterns for free/ on a budget?
