Yes please do so - and upload a video of your playing! smile.gif

You should be able to make good progress thanks to the mtp!

Posted by: Praetorian Sep 25 2008, 01:37 AM

Don't hesitate my fellow beginners! I was nervous about putting a video up because I am so new at playing...but I was chosen and I can't believe in the few weeks since it started how much I have learned (chords, arpeggios), and how much my timing has improved! Good luck to all!

Posted by: Scott Gentzen Sep 25 2008, 02:08 AM

I'd like to think I'm intermediate...I can do the Smoke on the Water, but the other two look like a little bit of a challenge so I'm maybe more of a beginner than I thought...

I haven't been really watching the details on the MTP thing so I'm not really up to date on what the details are...entry process, etc. What should I be reading to get spun up on what I should do?

Posted by: besip Sep 25 2008, 02:15 AM

actualy i'm maybe also something betwen beginer and advancet beginer biggrin.gif

i'm allready paying attentions for few lesson here on Gmc and some of them can be done soon
so looks like thats work like that i'm post here video and after that you guys gonna decide where i'm have to go right?? cool.gif

hey guys

here i am again tongue.gif
already upped 3 vids for you to check out
maybe i am an interesting for the MTP

just waiting for your critical answers huh.gif

i was on the list for the first sign up and now i am here again

i THINK i am advanced, but i am willing to start from the beginning, what i already do
its hard for me to set up a difficult level for me, because the lessons are soooooo different

thats why i decided to do it step by step FROM THE BEGINNING
at the moment i am working on the basic chord series and on the exercises for the MTP
ivans blues lesson is the next step after the solo part of the "alice in chains" thing

also pentatonic scales up and down and up and down, 6 hits per beat seems unbeatable for me *ufffff*
4 hits per beat i am somewhere at 70-75 BPM

so guys HERE I AM *raising hands - pick me pick me pick me *hehehe*

Will do. I'll get something recorded today or tomorrow. I'm going to be out of town with no internet over the weekend.

I'm beginner and i'd really like to get into the MTP.

Is it ok if i upload my video before the end of the weekend, or is that too late?
I don't have much time for it today and tomorrow..

Posted by: besip Sep 26 2008, 12:30 AM

I'm not sure if i'm be beginer or something else the problem is i'm to bussy to made new video before sunday
i'm have here 1 older video where i'm play pavel heavy metal 3 on 120bpm..right now i'm hope i'm can made video with 140bpm and when i'm take few shoots i'm probaly made this clean{hope}

Thats the older video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxsG24J-C8o&feature=PlayList&p=AC6975CFE4DED9A8&index=4
i'm also know play well David A-minor penta but the {lower} backing made me trouble...and some licks are not done right yet...i'm also start training Trond rock solo but i'm was stuck with the octave run{not able to play it on right speed} so i'm left the project for now..Right now i'm working also on Liam Slayer lesson{beginer} and that kind of playing is easy for me i'm after 3 days play almost clear on 120bpm..whats made me trouble is Pavel Heavy metal lesson 1 where we use 3 finger power chord..i'm also find my self almost after 1 year playind cheating with alternate picking and play economy...i'm trying to avoid that

My goal for next 6 month...is play more clean...play more easy 3 finger power chord...play more easy when i'm try to play over backing track and executed few songs what i'm be like and play them clean and weel over backing track

actualy i'm like almost all styles of playing..from Liam Ramstain and Slayer lesson to nice melodic stuuf like Nocturnal Vision lesson{i'm wana learn that later for sure} and also some blues here is nice...i'm will be find from all instructors lot of things what i'm like

I would really like to join the MTP.. However, i have no idea at what level i am at right now.

I would like to think that i am somewhere between beginner and intermediate, but i dont know.

I will include my first video i've made, however it is a couple of months old, and i have of course progressed since then.
I will try to make time to do another video as well in the next couple of days.

I am aiming to be a lead guitarist, and i am looking to fine tune my technical ability (or lack thereof). I am also very interested in learning the theory that goes behind everything we do.

I am very much interested in learning to choose the correct scale to a piece of music, and to improvise over it with ease.

I am currently playing in a band where we play old school rock and roll like Creedence Clearwater Revival and the likes, and at the moment i am studying some of Slash' solos in order for me to learn to be better at phrasing and the likes.

I very much enjoy blues as well, and this is also something i play. However, my "blues" improvisation tends to be more rock than blues. I know the minor pentatonic scale pretty well, but only tend to use position 1,2 and maybe 3.

Here is the lesson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze37AbKzm-4

I will try to create another lesson soon if you want it.

Great Zion - although there are many improvements you can do to your playing in this video - I still think your level is a little too high for the absolute beginner mtp students I am looking for.

One spontaneous advice I want to give you, is to work on your hammer-ons, from what I can tell in this video it seems that you don't get enough strength in your hammer-ons which results in "no sound" from the hammer-on notes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuG55lt2jqQ

Here it is. Kinda embarrassing. Really, really embarrassing, actually. I thought I was bad, but not this bad. At some point, I think I started actually getting worse. I don't get it.

It's a testimonial to what happens when you have a great resource like GMC and not using it well. I get highly distracted and it shows when I'm playing a lesson that I started many months ago and I can't all the way through it.

Over the summer I had some lessons with a guy that was home on summer break, so I got away from practicing any GMC material and I haven't gotten back into it. What I'd been working on over the summer was mostly theory and technique related....position shifting exercises, arpeggios, doing a chord progression with 6th string roots, then finding the same thing with 5th string roots. Stuff like that. I can't seem to be able to do them well on camera for some reason.

When I got started, I kept saying that I'm not trying to learn songs...I wanted to learn how to play the instrument. In thinking up things to do for the video above, I realized I don't really know any songs at all...I know bits and chunks of songs here and there, but nothing all the way through...even poorly. Running scales up and down for a half hour doesn't seem to help me get any better at playing.

Speed isn't my end goal, but I seem to have hit a wall there. 70bpm 16th's. I don't get it.

I haven't really figured out a good structured practice routine that works for me yet. I end up hitting a wall and then moving on to something else. When I was getting lessons, at least I had that "I gotta get this down by next Tuesday" drive to get through something. On my own, that seems to go away.

I mentioned that my overall goal is learning to play the instrument. I'd like to be able to play the things I have in my head. I'm starting to learn that maybe I won't get there if I don't start studying and playing other peoples' songs though. I'm pretty flexible on style. I'm kind of a rock guy, I'd like to be able to play the blues, maybe some old school metal here and there. I'm still trying to work out what "my style" is as far as playing, so I'm trying to absorb as much as I can...which could be another of my problems....lack of focus.

So, now what? biggrin.gif

Posted by: dango Sep 27 2008, 09:59 PM

Hi, Kris and Smells
Here is my video.

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=9765

After hearing people's feedback, I noticed now some part of timing wasn't right,. i tried to use metronome more often but I was not sure if my timing was correct or not when i was playing. Sometimes I can't hear because/perhaps i more focus on the notes.

So I would like to take a part, please.

Posted by: kclancy Sep 28 2008, 01:35 AM

Hey Gang,

My name is Clancy and I am new to GMC. I have been onboard for just over a week. I am really excited about GMC and all the great lessons and support that are available. I am especially interested in the Mentoring Training Program. I have been enjoying following along with their lesson plan.

About me - I have been playing steadily for about one year. The progress has been great and things are starting to make sense and become much easier.

Musical Interests - My primary interest is blues/rock music. I love the way the blues feels. I am starting to like the sound of jazz guitar as well.

My goals for the next six months –
1. Have fun!
2. Get better at rhythm guitar.
3. Learn the pentatonic scale and how to use it.
3. Add some “spice” to my playing. This means learning about vibrato, bending, slides, and etc.
4. Expose myself to different styles of music. Although I am primarily interested in blues guitar, I think that learning other styles of music will help me become a better guitarist.
5. Be able to go into a guitar shop, pull a guitar off the wall, and not feel embarassed about playing it. Then, buy an electric guitar.

I have attached a video of my playing. It has me playing a few lessons from GMC; Allman Brothers Style, Basic Strumming and Arpeggios, and Smoke on the Water. This filming was an eye-opener it and of itself. Bending in tune, timing, and the list goes on..... It is hard to hide on film. I tried!

I have the motivation and I am willing to put in the time. Everything I need to suceed is already here on this site. However, having some personal feedback on my playing will help me improve tremendously. Having a tailored practice schedule will accelerate my learning. With the help of GTP, I will become a solid intermediate.

Cheers!
Clancy

NO!!! I felt the same way before I applied...I thought everyone else's videos were WAY better than I could play so I wasn't going to bother! Kris gave me a boot in the behind and I put up an application video. Now, after just a few short weeks in the MTP program...I can't believe how much my playing in time, chords and overall playing has improved!

DON'T WAIT! For the beginner part of the MTP that I am in, he is looking for ABSOLUTE beginners!

My try at Muris' Blue note in A lesson(slow version ;P) wich ive been practicing this week.
I'm bad with timing.. (haven't played anything with a metronome yet)
and my bends are still sortof random (not bend up to the right note)
This is about the best i can play it now, took me a few recordings tongue.gif

Somehow if i save the video as anything else then mp4 it gets very dark,
so i hope you can play this file.

[edit] im not even allowed to upload the mp4 file :/, does anyone know a good way to convert mp4 to a more normal format? [/edit]

Ok this was a tough one - but the two students we will choose for now are Joruus and CompleteNewbie - I think you two fit the beginner profiles we are looking for. I will get back to you via pm! smile.gif

However I might return to this thread and invite some more of you into the test beginner mtp program - depending on how quick we progress etc

Also - I want to remind you that the reason we are doing this - is because we hope to be able to open up the mtp for anybody - as soon as possible! smile.gif

QUOTE (Kristofer Dahl @ Oct 1 2008, 03:17 PM) *
However I might return to this thread and invite some more of you into the test beginner mtp program - depending on how quick we progress etc

Will there be occasion to upload more videos if you re-open the quota or will you select on the video that already are uploaded?

Thanks!
