GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Greatest Metal Album Of All Time

Posted by: SLASH91 Oct 1 2007, 07:21 AM

Hey everybody,
There have been many albums that have been hugely influential on the genre of metal. But what do you guys think the the best and most influential album ever is. I've heard many people say Master of Puppets by Metallica or Rust in Peace by Megadeth, but what do you guys think. smile.gif

Ooo I like this topic!

Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky

That album is one of the most important black metal albums. I was only a child at the time, so what do I know, but tons of people says it is, and I think it is the first black metal album, except from Bathory and Mayhem's albums. Its also Darkthrone's "best" and most known album.

For some crazy reason I didnt find anything from this album on youtube.

I found this live version of In The Shadow Of The Horns though:

Mantas- Death By Metal

Well its influential because I think its the earliest death metal ever been recorded. It has all the classic death metal should be. Heavy guitars, gutteral vocals, and gore.

Metal Church- Red Skies

Earliest form of thrash metal. The combination of of heavy metal and hardcore punk are fused in this demo tape but its a lot heavier than thrash

I love 'tallica but I'm going to go Rust in Peace on this one.

Blackwater Park by Opeth.. i don't think it gets the recognition yet.. but it will.... Opeth doesn't write songs they write masterpeices.

Rust In Peace, My Favorite album EVER!

Posted by: Hungus Oct 1 2007, 09:54 AM

I think Opeth's Blackwater Park is probably the best metal album of all time...

Not much else to say....

Hear the rime of the ancient mariner
see his eye as he stops one of three...
mesmerizes one of the wedding guests,
stay here and listen to the nightmare of the sea!

Pretty much my list too, dude, but I think Kill 'em All really defined metal more than Master of Puppets.
I still like Master Of Puppets more though smile.gif

Oh yeah, I'm still with my parents for another year and they'd freak if they heard Slayer tongue.gif so I've never gotten to listen to Reign in Blood. Just a couple of their songs. sad.gif

Harsh, My parents both hate death metal, but I listen to it and emulate the vocal style some of the time, apparently I'm not so considerate as yourself laugh.gif

Best Metal Album?

No idea, if I had to give one album that encompassed all of metal for me I'd say the new Darkest Hour album - Deliver Us.

I think its perfection, the lyrical concepts, the vocals, the balance between heavier metal and catchy riffing, it strikes dead on for me.

Props to Reign In Blood and Vulgar Display Of Power, the latter was my introduction to the genre. cool.gif

This topic turned into another "favorite album" topic biggrin.gif

Actually there is no MOST INFLUENTIAL album, or band or player. Each band contributed to the style it plays so i wouldn't go the way of eliminating all the others and stating only one.

If we list all of the albums you pointed out in this topic we will have another 100 albums list. Try eliminating 99 albums and leaving only 1! Pretty tough, ha? wink.gif

Yeah, that's right! Crimson with Edge of Sanity.

Maybe not a super polished album, but definetly a masterpiece and I consider this as THE progressive metal album. So yeah, it's the most awesome and influential metal album. (If I don't count black sabbath and stuff like that, that's obviously a lot more infueltioal on the metal genre since it kind of defined metal, but). In my opinion, of course biggrin.gif

And yeah, since it has both Dan Swanö and Mikael Åkerfeldt on vocals, is there anything more to ask for?

Posted by: The Uncreator Oct 3 2007, 06:16 AM

this is more of a what metal albums influence you the most, i think.

Posted by: ZakkWylde Oct 3 2007, 06:25 AM

Most influencing I would say Cowboys from Hell by Pantera

Nah, man. It's not that I'm being considerate. Lol.
I just know that the only times I could listen to it would be at a friend's house, and if I listened to it at home eventually they would hear it and I'd have to listen to a very LOOONNGGG lecture. I'll just wait till I get a car. tongue.gif
