Hey everybody,
There have been many albums that have been hugely influential on the genre of metal. But what do you guys think the the best and most influential album ever is. I've heard many people say Master of Puppets by Metallica or Rust in Peace by Megadeth, but what do you guys think.
Ooo I like this topic!
Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky
That album is one of the most important black metal albums. I was only a child at the time, so what do I know, but tons of people says it is, and I think it is the first black metal album, except from Bathory and Mayhem's albums. Its also Darkthrone's "best" and most known album.
For some crazy reason I didnt find anything from this album on youtube.
I found this live version of In The Shadow Of The Horns though:

Mantas- Death By Metal
Well its influential because I think its the earliest death metal ever been recorded. It has all the classic death metal should be. Heavy guitars, gutteral vocals, and gore.
Metal Church- Red Skies
Earliest form of thrash metal. The combination of of heavy metal and hardcore punk are fused in this demo tape but its a lot heavier than thrash
I love 'tallica but I'm going to go Rust in Peace on this one.
Blackwater Park by Opeth.. i don't think it gets the recognition yet.. but it will.... Opeth doesn't write songs they write masterpeices.
Rust In Peace, My Favorite album EVER!
I think Opeth's Blackwater Park is probably the best metal album of all time...
Not much else to say....
Master Of Puppets!!! i was going for Ride The Lightning, but it has too many ballads
I think it has to be Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band... No competition.
Or not...
Oops!
Cool, keep 'em comin' guys.
This thread made me pop in my copy of Blackwater park again.. I gotta say its really good. I still think Rust in Peace is better though

There's so many styles of metal but the ones that click for me when i hear greatest of all time is
Megadeth=Rust in Peace
Metallica=Master Of Puppets
Slayer=Reign in Blood
Pantera = Voluger Display of Power
Sorry guys, I'm going out a limb here and saying Black Sabbath, it doesn't matter which album. They are the godfathers of metal for me !!
This topic turned into another "favorite album" topic
Actually there is no MOST INFLUENTIAL album, or band or player. Each band contributed to the style it plays so i wouldn't go the way of eliminating all the others and stating only one.
If we list all of the albums you pointed out in this topic we will have another 100 albums list. Try eliminating 99 albums and leaving only 1! Pretty tough, ha?
Yeah, that's right! Crimson with Edge of Sanity.
Maybe not a super polished album, but definetly a masterpiece and I consider this as THE progressive metal album. So yeah, it's the most awesome and influential metal album. (If I don't count black sabbath and stuff like that, that's obviously a lot more infueltioal on the metal genre since it kind of defined metal, but). In my opinion, of course
And yeah, since it has both Dan Swanö and Mikael Åkerfeldt on vocals, is there anything more to ask for?
this is more of a what metal albums influence you the most, i think.
Most influencing I would say Cowboys from Hell by Pantera
Hehe, what on dude?
"We're not having satanists in this house young man!"
Alive or just breathing.. by the almighty Killswitch Engage!
with a decent second place for Cruel World by the farily unknown band Bloodsimple
