Hey, I'm a practicing guitarist who has put the guitar down a few years and
and has come back ready to take it to the next level. When i played before I really didn't get that much further than learning a few riffs and a blues scale or two..So this time i really want to learn the fretboard. Can anyone tell me if they had anything that helped them remember the scale patterns or keys they are playing in? TY in advance...

I started with Pentatonics and found this site really had a really simple explanation:

http://www.theorylessons.com/pentatonics.html

You only have to learn 5 patterns (you probably already know atleast one). Once you have those 5 patterns down you'll want to start connecting them together:

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/One_on_on...onic_scale1.htm
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/One_on_on...onic_scale2.htm
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/One_on_on...onic_scale3.htm

Then just learn a bunch of pentatonic licks or make some up yourself and you'll be on your way. Then move on to the modes etc and you'll find it makes heaps more sense.

This worked for me anyway.

Cheers
