Quick Licks #52 Neoclassical Part 4 Tripeggios With Scale Shapes Options

Now that we have had some practice using the "Tripeggio" and Economic Picking, let's add a scale shape to it. This isn't really a scale as such, it's just a shape that goes well with the initial Tripeggio. It's more of a hand drill to get your fingers used to doing Econ Picking/Sweep Picking and transitioning to a scale shape. Don't be thrown off by the speed at which I do the demo, it's just to show you what you will sound like with a bit of practice!

This pattern loops so try to loop it a few times and keep it clean. Precision is the key to everything. If you play sloppy slow, you'll play sloppy fast, so keep it under control. However, do push itin your practice beyond the point of control to see where it falls apart and to get your fingersready to play faster. You will "grow in to it". For the video, just share the cleanly played version.

*NOTE: Keep it smooth and under control. If you find you are losing control, slow down just a pinch for the video. Push the boundaries during practice.

You've got a good handle on the pattern!! You start out strong and clean and that's all I need here for quick licks. I do notice that you start drifting on the metronome after the first loop or so, but that's something you can work out as you go. I mostly want to see if you guys pick up the lick "quickly" and can play it. You can clearly play this bit. You may be pushing the speed a bit much for speeds sake which might be why it starts lagging a pinch behind the metronome. However, this isn't bootcamp, it's quick licks. You picked up the lick quick so you got it!!! You can get a bit more speed often by using a sweep motion on your first two pick strikes, you are sorta picking them individually which is fine, it just isn't quite as efficient as doing a single sweep over both strings. I start this like it is going to be a sweep arpeggio lick which saves a bit of hand motion. Little motions add up, which is why making small motions on strikes/fretting is key when hitting stride. I knew when I was playing it that I'd drifted but as you said I was going a bit too quick for my skills. I picked it as the TAB said. While I was practising I sometimes slipped into economy picking without thinking but I tripped over myself, I found alternate to be easier.

For Quick Licks, the picking is more of a suggestion. If a bit is more comfy to do as alt/econ rather than what it's listed as its fine. It's meant to be a quick way to add licks to your lick library so dont' worry too much about getting bogged down on something that isn't working, go with what does

Nicely done!! Tripeggios can be tricky. They are not quite arpeggios and not quite triads. They require bits of both. You have a good command over all the techniques involved in pulling them off. Per usual, not an ounce of wincing guitar face!! Not breaking a sweat. I'm going to start making these a bit more complicated!! NICE!!! We are using the triad shape yet again in this one. We throw a note pattern on top of it right after we play it sort of like a sweep picked arpeggio. You play the triad very smoothly and transition to the note section with confidence. Clearly, you can play this lick with ease. Bingo! That's the ticket. I notice an increase in precision/speed in your playing which is great to see. Your hand contiues to adapt to the mute while picking approach. No string noise, no gaps, well played! This is a great warmup lick. Loop it with a metronome and see how little force you can use to pick and fret. see how many loops you can do before your hand burns out.
