Hey everyone, sorry but i was unhappy with the video's sound in the first take...will be trying again soon! Everyone, thanks for all the advice, will try to use it! Also, thanks for the Lynch videos...any songs to check out by him??

No, But i did just now..high e is sharp by like 1/4th or so, some others by 1/8th...i know i should have i just forgot

Seems like a descent take with the exception of being out of tune and the tone. I haven’t done this lesson so I will leave the other comments up to Daniel.

George Lynch is a great guitar player to study. One thing about his playing is the passion he puts into it. The 80’s were all about attitude my friend. The pinch harmonics, vibrato and picking dynamic (he is very confident and aggressive) that he uses imho are what add to his uniqueness.

I’ll leave you with a cool video link to illustrate my point. Here he does a jam over a Hendrix tune with no flashy gear and it still sounds like him. Watch how he takes pentatonic shapes and sexes it up.

Yeah, i took it off cause i didn't like it much...the backing drowned out the guitar as well

Vaialation1232 I sure hope I didn't come across negative. That isn't the message I wanted to get across and if that is how you took it I am sorry. Why take it down?? As far as the lesson goes I said it seems that you did it just fine.

I just tried to point you in a direction of George Lynch so you could study his playing if you were interested.

Put your take back up man. I'm sure Daniel will love it. I too was only trying to introduce George as you said you had not listened to Dokken.

This is your thread and your take, maybe the inserted vid's took away from that and I'm sorry. I'll remove them now but please, put yours back up for comment. Keep rocking bro!

Nono, don't worry about it... i just feel that i could do it better, i was planning on doing it again cause i just learned it...so now that i am tuned and will practice a little more i will post it again soon (i was gonna take it down anyway after i got some good suggestions to make it better)...and yeah i haven't listened to almost any of his stuff so thanks for the video

Again, i know everyone on here is just trying to help...so i will take your comment into account for my next try (although may take a few days cause my guitar needs new strings cause it is chewing up my fingers)

I was planning on taking it off anyway, i just wanted some good suggestions for it, which i got...don't worry im not offended or anything like that..you guys are just helping and i know that

I dont want anyone to think i took it off because of the advice you guys gave me...i just wasn't happy with the sound in the video so i will do another take soon

P.s.-Any good songs by him you think i should check out?

Cool man! Why don't you ask Daniel for the backing track? I'm sure he will send it to you if he has it. That way you can record your take in a DAW and sinc it all with the video. Just a suggestion.

Do you know of a way to use the webcam's mic in Logic? cause yeah that would solve a lot of my problems as half the time i forget to turn the computer volume down and have to do takes over again..

Also, any Lynch songs you think i should check out?

Lynch's sound as a whole relies greatly on George's fingers, i can't say i know of any guitarist who matches his tone.

George doesnt play with alot of gain its just about 12 o-clock, he relies on alot of reverb and delay to get the bite he wants without the sound getting really hissy. Another signature of his sound is a subtle flange, the swell rate and level are really low and slow. So it doesnt cycle very fast or intrude on the tone too much.

For me personally when i recorded the lesson, i am using a GNX3 and i am using one of the hyper models that mash two different amp types together. In this case a Rectifer and Vox AC30 about 60%, 40% respectively.

Another key ingredient to playing with a similar tone to Lynch is pick attack, he likes to pinch the strings really hard so the pick digs into the string. He does it in such a way so it doesnt get the pinch harmonic, but its a similar hand gesture when striking the string. It tends to make the string tone get more of an "Aohh" type sound when you do this. Experiment with varying your pick attack and see what i mean, you can actually change your tone drastically by attacking the string with various intensities and pick angle.

OH, flange! I knew i noticed something, but i wasn't sure what it was and i only have a phaser to try and that didn't sound right. will take the gain into consideration as well as the pick attack *although can't picture the Aohh sound but i think i knew what you mean...i need new strings but probably this week ill have a new take up...weekend at latest!

I have been a Lynch fan for over 20 years and I think you nailed his tone on your style video. However, there are only two such videos on the entire site. It would be nice to have a few more Lynch videos on the site as well as maybe a few Lynch cover songs. I wish someone would take a listen to Lynch's new Lynch Mob album 'Smoke and Mirrors' and perhaps use one of those songs in a lesson. It is an incredible album and would be refreshing to have his new stuff instead of the old Dokken stuff that has been done millions of times.
