Facebook Changing Name To "metaverse"? Options

Yup. Look like facebook is changing their name. All the good will and bad will has to focus on a new brand. seems like they will change it to "metaverse". Hmm. Ok. Seem strange?

Seems risky to me to change the name. It is such a brand name. Easy to remember, it's been such a big part of our lives for 10-15 years. I know sites come and go, but I don't remember one being around for as long as Facebook. That said, of course it has its flaws. From a business perspective I'd try to fix the mistakes but keep the name and otherwise ride the storm. Almost everyone with internet access in the world is on Facebook. It's kinda crazy. Well, something like 3 billion active users out of 5 billion with access anyway. Crazy number still. A name change can cause huge branding issues and seems a bad solution to me hiding the actual problems.

I had the same thought. To kill all that brand recognition? Now? After more than a decade? I don't know what they are thinking. They could always start a new product, or an add on, or something. But nope. Looks like they are changing the entire thing. Maybe it's just an excuse to roll out a new terms of service with less privacy protection.

Now it's starting to make sense The SEC and FTC is starting to sniff around facebook after this whistleblower and documents have come to light. If they create a new brand they can try to avert a lot of the negative impacts by saying "that was the old company" and "Zuckerberg doesn't work here anymore" etc.

sadly, it may be just that easy. I didn't know they were inches from being investigated by govt and the SEC can come Zuckerberg. He will probably step back a bit and change the company name and say "that was the old company, were better".
