Hey friends!
We are reaching the end of the year and it's time for balances and to set new goals for the next year. This has been a very positive year for me both personally and professionally.
While I'm writing down my plans for the next year, I'd like to know about your 2015's balance.
Have you achieved your goals? Is your 2015's balance positive both personally and professionally?
Hello Gab,
I haven't achieved my goals unfortunately. I'd like to nail that Darius lesson sometime next year, I spent a lot of time on it and had to go back to level 2 lessons which I am struggling with due to the rhythm parts. I've had big distractions lately with setting up mic recording and other things in my practise room.
I think I need to have more self discipline, when I am struggling with lessons, I allow things to distract me. I have discovered in the last half of this year that I need to feel I am achieving, or at least feel that I am approaching achievement. If I feel I'm not, I look for something to achieve which is really a distraction. I think this is where the mic recording thing came in, it was to take my mind off my lack of achievement in the two lesson I am doing. I really need to correct this mind set somehow.
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed learning with Mertay and Todd about recording with a mic, it hasn't been a waste of time but it has slowed progress considerably.
So, in summary, I need to clean up my act, get more self discipline and structure my time better then hopefully the rest will follow.
Cheers Gab.
I think I achieved my goals for this year more than I proposed. Even if I had less participations in GMC collabs, my main purpose was to focus more at lessons and make new technical guitar steps.
So, I worked more than ever with Darek and I think we have more great results than we expected. Always our mentoring had awesome results but this year our progress was absolutely incredible for me. I learn things much faster, my playing sounds different, I got confidence in my playing, I increased the speed of playing beyond my expectation for this year and I realized that I don't know myself very well. When I think I touched a limit and I start to say things like "I can't play this", “is too fast for me”, "it's too hard for my level”, Darek pushed me over this limit and it proved me that I can do more. This was really awesome!
Also beside guitar playing I learned new things about mixing, video editing and VST plugins where I succeed to make my first metal tone which is emulated 90% with the tone from the original lesson
So, I have no complaint for 2015. I already start to work at things which will be done in 2016
That's really good to read Monica. Well done
Thank you for your kind words Monica
I wanted to be able to play the entire works of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Stevie Ray Vaughan by the end of 2015. I'm 50 in February so I'll try and get them under my fingers by then
Cheers
For me it was a good Year I think I had no particular goals but there was so much work on my "to do list" that I had no time to think of any goals. I would like to progress some more as well but I hope I'll find the balance next year This year was instead a great and progressive one in case of my personal life so I will add it to the list of those good ones

Hi,
I haven't aimed something precise for 2015 but i'm happy, because I work my guitar seriously.
For 2016, I've a lot of goals : improving my guitar skills (I aim lessons level 4 at the end of the year), composing songs and improving my improvisation skills.
I know I joked in my previous post but seriously I'd like to become comfortable in level three lessons I'd also like to understand a lot more theory and expand fretboard knowledge. My problem is time so I need lots of very small steps, baby steps to climb my chosen mountain. If I get too much information at once I can't absorb it and I start to lose interest. Part of this is because my job is mentally challenging so my brain needs a defrag
Cheers
Inspiring posts friends! It seems that it has been a positive 2015 for GMC:ers.
I was joking with Monica because she said I had done well last year and I was joking that I hadn't because my goal for 2015 was to play the full works of Satch, Vai and SRV and because I hadn't managed it I'm hoping to get that done by my 50th birthday in February
Ahh I missed that!
My 2015 was outstanding and one of the best year in my life so far. I achieved many personal goals, travelled 6 countries, climbed 5416m mount passage at Himalayas, and what's makes this year even better - I started with music lessons and projects, joined Gab's Army and made some cool videos (see below); it's not so much, but it's a good start for one of most important things in my life
That's awesome mate! Your musical project sounds very nice as well as your other amazing goals! Congratulations.
I wonder why your youtube videos doesn't include description and clear names to be found by more people. Is there any reason?
Thanks man! =)
These's no reason, I just didn't give it a thought really. Are you talking about small number of views? Any ideas about how to spread a good video?
