With one upgrade, I doubled the speed of the drives in my studio. I have several firewire 400/800, usb 2.0 drives and they are just to darn slow IMHO when doing big copies including video. Thankfully, they have a esata port on the back and I found a cheap USB 3.0 to esata converter for $35. I have my laptop going to a port dock via Thunderbolt. So the dock has usb 3.0 and other ports that are not on my laptop. So I connect the adapter to usb 3.0 then to the esata port on the hard drive. The speeds are double. Wow. Less lag/latency all around and moving big stuff takes half as long. See pic.s
