But sometimes you try to play things you weren't capable to play back then and now you're nailing them effortlesly and if gives you such a boost in motivation. Many times I've had those periods mate, often after doing some hard practice weeks before. Just leave some time to settle things a bit, and push on with practice no matter what. For instance your picking speed might be the same, but if you were to hear yourself back a year ago, now it is much cleaner. Nov 24 2008, 11:50 PM	GMC:er Posts: 47 Joined: 4-June 07	thanks all for nice replys i feel better to know that im not the only one who has that, no teacher is fine but sometimes he comes with techniques i normal try to ignore cause they are a bit hard like those sorry dont know the english term barre chords. those a quite hard to do if i do it very long i feel it in my fingers but i will try them cause i think they are important too learn. I have no explanation for why this happens. I had shoulder surgery Nov. 7 and couldn't touch my axe for about ten days. I brushed up on some of Andrew's Theory lessons while sitting around. Now, I'm back playing, and for some strange reason, I'm quicker and more accurate than ever - even with distracting soreness in the shoulder! Can someone explain this?!?! Some things will be obvious sooner some later. You might not notice things that you are doing bad or good then couple of years later. So find your favorite style of music, artists, check them out, work on your original style, and practice everything that needs to get you where you want to be. At least try - maybe it will work for you, too. -Kizaze i can totally relate to that.. i have been practicing muris alternate picking lesson, and i could almost do the 60bpm version of it (there is 80 and 100 also).. so when i could almost do the 60 without any errors, i turned it up to 80.. this was of course WAY faster, but i was amazed to see how well i did.. it was by no means good, but giving it a 40% speed increase.. this was great.. i practiced this a couple of days, but was nowhere near being able to complete it at 80bpm.. then one of these "down" periods came.. i didn't even want to touch my guitar.. it took a couple of days, and the first time i picked up the guitar after.. i ran through the lesson at 80bpm with no errors.. i almost couldn't believe it.. it was awesome.. That's the problem, it's really important to approach stuff that's way outta your league!!! This way you're forced to develop in speed and feel. Don't bother what the instructor's speed is.
