I change strings before every show and I try to do it at least 3 days before the show. I couldn't do it on time and I did it one day before the show this weekend and I had to tune my guitar many times during the show.

What about you? Do you change strings before a gig? How many days?

I usually do it 3 to 6 days before a gig and never had any problems smile.gif

2 days is good, I usually end up doing it on the evening on the day before the gig, so I get little detunes, depending what gig and what I play.

Day before the performance is quite enough, at least in my case!

A day before at least smile.gif If you try to change the day of the show, or worse right before a show (which I've seen people do) it doesn't give the strings time to "settle" and the tuning will drift. It's even worse on double locking trems and worst of all on double locking trems set to "Free Float". Strings need to bet worked in a bit IMHO smile.gif

I use a double locking trem and the key is to stretch out your strings before you lock it
I just pull the string away from the guitar around 2 inches a few times and that usually does the trick

Always 2 days before, so I get to play the axe as much as possible at home and rehearsals. That way, the strings 'settle down' if we can call it like that and the guitar stays in tune on stage.

I am particularly careful with these things, if I have to use an axe who was tuned differently in a certain manner (let's say drop C) and it needs to be raised one tone higher for a gig, in example. Give the guitar some time to adjust itself with the new settings before taking it onstage, even if you have given her all the proper adjustments involved by changing the strings with a new gauge.

So we could set a standard of two days guys! smile.gif That's a good tip regarding changing the tuning Cosmin!

don't be scared mate! smile.gif

I always bring a back up guitar to show... I rarely use it but I feel more relaxed if I know that I have it...

If it's valuable...I say..play the hell out of it biggrin.gif I can't use any backup guitars as it goes for the baritone, although I don't think I'll be able to break any string on that one biggrin.gif

When I bought the strat, I carry it on 10-15 gigs in the case back then, and then I started using simple black gigbag. Nobody noticed it. If they do try, I have my blood on that guitar, it was with me on many gigs, so whoever steals it - he will be cursed ph34r.gif biggrin.gif

+ 1 on Cosmins tuning advices, if changing tuning, always pull the strings a bit and play them out strongly, with some bends, at least an hour before the show. When tunin the strings for the show do the same thing just before the stage, pull them out couple of times and play them out. Otherwise, they have the tendency to go to previous tenstion/pitch. For winter/cold temperature open gigs, this is crucial too.

2 day standard it is smile.gif
