Mine are two that I didn't know even existed until this year. Andy James and Muris Varajic. I am really liking Emir Hot as well. Emir you gotta me your instrumental album!!

Posted by: JVM Feb 9 2009, 02:21 AM

Gilbert, IMO, is the best shredder with the best balance of amazing technique, creativity, phrasing, and rhythm.

Check out his album "in the wake of chaos". It is really good. He has some really good instructional DVD's as well, especially if you are into tapping.

Defiently Paul gilbert and guthrie govan. i love pauls patterns and blue phrasing and rythmical playing and Guthrie govan uses some of the coolest Scales , all of his Chromatic stuff sounds sick but i never seem to get the same sound when i play sad.gif mainly because he knows what he is doing tongue.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Feb 10 2009, 12:43 PM

Michael Angelo Batio, Great balance of technique, soul, and creativity.

Posted by: ZakkWylde Feb 10 2009, 01:04 PM

Gilbert and Loomis

Posted by: David Wallimann Feb 10 2009, 02:29 PM

Would Shawn Lane be considered a shredder?

Posted by: fatb0t Feb 10 2009, 02:31 PM

David, I think Shawn Lane was most definitely an original shredder.

Muris, Emir, & Buckethead for me smile.gif

Posted by: Piotr Kaczor Feb 10 2009, 02:32 PM

YJM, PG, Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker

Posted by: Mandos Feb 10 2009, 03:34 PM

Mattias IA Eklundh if you consider shredder as a subset of guru. wink.gif

Other than that I have to say Emir and Muris. smile.gif

Posted by: djohnneay Feb 10 2009, 06:19 PM

I especially like Herman Li. Saw him with Dragonforce in Amsterdam this year and I think they played really good and clean. However, I think there are better players, like for example Yngwie Malmsteen and Buckethead.

Posted by: Paiva Feb 10 2009, 08:44 PM

Paul Gilbert and Petrucci

Posted by: Matt23 Feb 10 2009, 08:47 PM

Well naturally I would say Paul Gilbert, for me he stands apart from the rest because he is totally musical with it, awsome phrasing and dynamics its the entire package. That said I think Buckethead is pretty darn awsome and he has some incredibly diverse albums under his belt.

Posted by: Rated Htr Mar 5 2009, 01:38 AM

Luca turilli & Syu

Posted by: SensE Mar 5 2009, 01:46 AM

IS Andy Timmons a shredder? I vote him anyway. next would be Michael Angelo Batio ! then, i vote for Takayoshi Ohmura. His music is soulful and inspiring.

Apart from all those already mentioned, I think there should be a mention of:-
Kiko Loureiro!

Posted by: ErikEklund Mar 6 2009, 04:27 PM

Guthrie smile.gif

Posted by: Jaymz Mar 11 2009, 12:54 AM

Ron Jarzombek for his complex 12 tone stuff.

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Mar 11 2009, 12:55 AM

I'm sure Becker has already been mentioned. But Jason is really rocking my boat these days.

Posted by: TreyDeschamp Mar 11 2009, 01:28 AM

Its between Paul Gilbert, or Jeff Loomis

Posted by: AlexLion Mar 11 2009, 02:38 PM

Vinnie Moore smile.gif

Posted by: helo92 Mar 11 2009, 03:02 PM

Alexi Laiho and Steve Vai

Posted by: Déjà vu Jul 10 2009, 04:00 AM

I have to say that I usually jump from player to player, but at the moment I like...

Shawn Lane, YJM, Michael Romeo, Jason Becker, Marcus Lavendell, and Paul Gilbert.

EDIT: Oh, and Eric Johnson (If he counts as a shredder)...

Posted by: Santiago Diaz Garces Jul 11 2009, 03:11 AM

A lot to say

Kiko Loureiro and Jason Becker on the first step. Then will come Paul Gilbert, Michael Romeo, YJM, Stephan Forte (You must check out this guy. His band Adagio is amazing!), and I liked a lot some Emir stuff.

Posted by: Alexiaden93 Jul 11 2009, 06:33 AM

Ninja Muris ! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Skewlbuzz Jul 11 2009, 09:54 AM

How did Chris Impellitteri manage to get such an awful sound out of that equipment? ohmy.gif
His technique is unbelievable, but I never really liked his playing.

Remember when I cranked up the gain on your ENGL, just to see how far it goes? laugh.gif

My favourite shredder is Richie Kotzen laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

I mean, he's not a shredder AT ALL, but when he shreds, that's just mindblowing!

Posted by: newguyatgmc Jul 13 2009, 05:28 PM

My list of shredders:(dont know if they are mentioned before)

Michael Amott: Arch enemy
Dimebag: Pantera
Dave Mustaine:Megadeth
MartY Friedman
Joe Satriani
Guitarists from the band The Crown....I guess this band is not mentioned anywhere in GMC....these guys kill everyone.....just check their following songs on youtube:

The Crown: Speed of Darkness
World Below
Crowned in terror
Satanist
any other if available it will be good idea to check studio versions first...the live ones might not be that high quality.
I feel bad these guys disbanded becasue of financial issues. I felt so bad when I learnt that...I immediately bought their Farewell home video DVD....

And let me know your opinions....These guys kill all the other Death Metal Band hands down in my opinion.

Posted by: Emir Hot Jul 14 2009, 12:17 AM

Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert and Yngwie are my 3 favorite ones

Posted by: cattus Jul 14 2009, 10:33 AM

Jason Becker,Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, Yngwie and of course Emir and Muris smile.gif

Posted by: gibsonmatte Jul 14 2009, 10:50 AM

Not sure how to interpret "shredders" in this case but if we're dealing with insanely fast guys then Gilbert and Yngwie are my favorites. Other than that Andy Timmons, Christopher Amott and Norum are in my top 10.

Posted by: The Uncreator Jul 15 2009, 02:35 AM

Muhummad Suicmez of Necrophagist, Pretty much the amount of guitarist that can match this guy is zero. Flawless player with an amazing sense of melody and technique.

I saw Buckethead live last summer and he was unreal. Like a guitar playing robot but in a good way like he was built to do it. I really like Jason Becker,a new greatest hits album came out not too long ago real good stuff check it out.

Ya, I love buckethead too. Im going to the show tommarow, can't wait!

Posted by: Marcus Siepen Sep 22 2009, 04:23 PM

Maybe he is not really the classical "Shredder", but for it it would always be Michael Schenker. But of course there are other great players too wink.gif Muris, Emir, Jeff Loomis to name just a few
