Agreed - I also like the sparkle but I dislike the feeling of new when I play some riffage. They need a day to settle in smile.gif At least for me smile.gif

Guys, if you were to sum things up, how much money do you spend on strings each year?

I joined Guitar Center's string club, where you pay $20 a year to get $5 towards strings a month. Considering I'm a big D'Addario fanboy, and the strings that I buy cost $4.90, for eight months of the year I get free strings biggrin.gif

I did this to one of my guitars and it really does work. My silver PRS that has a painted neck. Although since the grain is so light on the paper, I think it is time to do it again.

I would suggest anyone try it. You may want to check it on the neck of a guitar that is not your "go-to" just to see, but I really liked the way it felt.

This isn't really for tone, but it is such a nice feel it's fresh like new strings - which could help playing and could help tone.

This is a very interesting video. I think that it must be a very nice feel but I wonder the reason why it would help to become faster... what's the reason why?

Bogdan made me remember on the Fast Fret product. I've never tried it, it is a very good idea for bass strings, I wonder if you guys used this one for guitars... what's your experience?

Hmmm, I dislike it to me honest and since I haven't been using other strings then Elixirs, I haven't used the Fast Fret either. It leaves a weird sticky sensation to the strings after putting it on, which I don't like..

I am wondering if Elixir has some similar program biggrin.gif Actually, is it a D'Addario program or a Guitar Center program?

The way it works is it applies a $5 credit towards any string purchase once a month. Since the strings I normally buy (D'Addario) are slightly less than $5, I don't have to pay anything extra. So, lets say that I want a set of Elixirs, and they normally cost around $15. The String Club applies a $5 credit towards a pack of strings purchase, so I only pay $10.

That's a great deal!! Strings are getting very expensive here with all the taxes that the government is adding. I'm starting to think on trying the ones made in Argentina.

This question is for the guys who don't live in USA, Are there strings made in your country? Have your try them? Are good?

Darn it sad.gif Well, I have shot a little movie for Elixir and hopefully I will get a good deal with them. Elixirs at half price - that would be really something biggrin.gif They asked me to test the new acoustic strings that they have made in collaboration with Taylor, so I did a little movie for them. Let's hope it will work out!

I was getting FAST FRET confused with FINGER EASE. I didn't like FAST FRET as it left vaseline on the strings. I did like FINGER EASE since it seemed to keep my strings newer and brighter a bit longer!

I've been using elixers on all my guitars for ages. But man Australia has the highest price anywhere for strings. I'm paying something like $18 Australian and even Ernie Ball is something like $14 a pack

This is a very interesting video. I think that it must be a very nice feel but I wonder the reason why it would help to become faster... what's the reason why?

Like Spock, I do this every once in a while on my Ibanez (whenever it starts to get sticky). It just makes the back of the neck slick so your thumb slides more easily when traversing up and down the neck. After the first time I did it , I was addicted to the super slick feel of the neck. I wouldn't say it makes your playing 10 times faster, but it may make playing faster a bit more comfortable because of how it gives the neck a loose feel and reduces a bit of the resistance (If you have any) from the thumb sliding on the back of the neck.
If you like the feel of a clean, unfinished and slippery maple neck, then this little trick may suit you.

Elixirs are expensive in general, but you pay less on the long run, if you come to think of it smile.gif

Pay more on a pack, but since they last longer, you change them less often than let's say a pack of Ernie Ball strings - so, on the long run, they are cheaper.

yeah. the biggest thing I like about elixers is the fact they last forever. I'd rather be playing than restringing. So far for me the most disapointing string I've used tho were the Ernie Ball Cobolts. I loved the tone from them and it did seem to increase the output of the guitar but they just went dead and corroded in a week for me. Maybe on day when someone else pays for my strings and restrings my guitar I'll use them but till then elixers all the way.

One thing I have found is some of my guitars sit in the rack for a while (few weeks) and the elixers means when I pick it up again it still plays fresh. worse case senario is its a bit dirty from me being lazy and not wiping it down but a bit of dunlop string cleaner and they are lgood to go. I actually worry more about the fretwire tarnishing than my strings.

They say something like 4-6 times longer which I think is kinda accurate. Even longer if its not a guitar you play on all the time

The biggest put off I think for most people is they are very slick at first due to the coating but it does go away after a bit and feel a bit normal. Tho the advantage is you do get less string talk.

Never tried the cobalts, but I can tell you that I am able to cause damage to a pack of Slinkies in a VERY short time. Till now, no other strings have dome the thing for me, so I will stay true to Elixirs smile.gif

Mith nailed it smile.gif I think I can keep a set on the guitar for about 2 months of heavy playing. So making a simple calculation:

A pack of Elixirs is 11 euros - say that you will change one set each 2 months -> 66 euros/ year and adding an extra pack of spares if let's say, you break some -> 77 euros

A pack of Ernie Ball slinky is around 6 euros - they last for about 2 weeks of heavy playing - 12 euros a month, times 12 -> 144 euros/ year + a pack of spares, that comes to a total of 150 euros.
