I agree with Todd in respect to the speed gap - for me, it was never a matter of concern or frustration, because I never had to deal with downpicking that much in my life at high speeds, so I just let it grow in time without making too big a fuss out of it
I must admit that the method in which you play close to your limit and then push a bit and then come back and slowly raise the bar, raising your limit after some time can work out wonders
Just don't go nuts over it and it will come when you least expect it
