Hi my name is Paul Rotton
this is my first post. I am from St. Louis Missouri USA I like bebop, blues and jazz. I am around 44 yrs of age and have been playing for many years altough for the last 2 years I have gotten more serious about playing. Bump the Bop is a shuffle style blues done with a bop feel as far as the melody is concerned. It is an 12 bar form In the key of A Blues (D Major) You will learn a chord melody (padding) chord substitutions and variations. The progression is a little different than a straight I, IV, V in that it turns around at the Vii Chord to the IV The riffs are in the A blues scale, the A mixolydian and the chromatic scale. This original piece seems simple because the melody is very lyrical however it may give you a challenge I hope. The tabs are incorporated with the videos Sincerely, Paul Rotton New File 2-19-07 main.mov ( 7.07MB ) Number of downloads: 1276 in the next post I will cover the chords New Audio File 2-19-07 Bump_the_Bop.mp3 ( 2.4MB ) Number of downloads: 581 This post has been edited by puxler140: Feb 19 2007, 06:25 PM |

Hey Paul,
First of all welcome and a big thanks for stepping up to the mic and creating the lesson. Its great to see yet another potential instructor and yet another completely different style. Big big hand to you fella. I Loved the lesson, and I would love to be able to master that - it seems to have a lot of blues/jazz elements that can be used all over the place, I am sure there is lots to learn from it. Kris has already mentioned the video size. It really is an issue, I only watched about 6 video's so far but they are pretty small, some like postage stamp size which would put me off watching them. I think the Ideal size vid is as in Rockwouldbe's lessons, If you could get video of similar quality that would be great. I personally dont like quicktime but maybe its just me. Once we get past the video issue though, I thought the lesson was pretty clear and has great potential to be really really really interesting. I also think its helpfull when an instructor speaks sometimes - perhaps to explain fingerings and how they overcame any difficulties they had in learning a passage? I agree with Rockwould be about the tabs being in notepad - that way you can have the tab open as you play to the video and of course makes it printable. Very important to students to have lots of paper to carry around. I have already said it - thanks but there you go again. I think with just some presentational technical improvements outside of guitar playing, you have the makings of some really popular lessons. -------------------- its not easy

Hi, I second Fretdancer's comments about the video size, and would also add that I found the sound a little lo quality as well, but I really digged the lesson, its great to have a more jazzy direction - an area I have always been interested in.
Thanks very much! -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

Hey Paul,
I jave had a brief look again and it seems the notes are doubled in a strange way - I suspect this might be because of latency...make sure to mute the channel you are recording onto. Furthermore, the tabs make it really messy - you need to have them in text beside the video if people are going to use this material. You need to fix all these issues and really work on the layout (do it exactly the same way as in the example lesson): Learning the first jazz licks and chords will probably be hard for people even with a perfect layout - as this lesson looks now I think it's nearly impossible... |
