Hey there smile.gif

I've had this wierd pain in my fretting hand, on the ring finger and haven't been able to play much sad.gif
So to pass time, I decided to remake my old strat copy smile.gif

I was thinkin something like SRV's Lenny guitar, or something to that direction wink.gif

But I really don't know much, what is going on inside the guitar, so I made this thread to ask questions,
and post photos of my progress...

Here comes the first question ( with a photo smile.gif )

What is this wire????? And do I just cut it like every rest of them???

Attached Image

Cheers smile.gif

It's a grounding cable.

I don't know if you "cut it like the rest of them" or solder it lose, depends on if you want to keep it or not.

I mean cutting it right on the tip of it, not in the middle that I can't use it again...

And I blive those screws that hold the claw are neck plate screws (with a coned bottom, proably to save money). I suggest you exchange those with plat bottom screws so they stay flat onto the claw.

Sand paper a lot of it try to stay away from sanders because if you go to hard your gonna damage the wood. I would also stay away from chemicals too just a good heavy grit sandpaper you will be surprised how quickly it comes off

I don't know your guitar but in general it's just to pull straight up. Some are fastened with a small screw in the side of the knob.

Yeah, that's excatly what I was thinking smile.gif I'm not gonna take the whole paint off tho, I'm just gonna give it a vintage look, like SRV biggrin.gif

Sounds like you've already started, did you take before and after pics? Strat type knob, probably pull straight up to come off. You may need to use something flat and gently pry to get them started. Sand paper will be fine if you are going for the relic look.

Yeah, I've alredy started, the guitar is now in pieces smile.gif I didn't take a before shot tho, but I should have something in store... Hold on...

And yeah, the knobs came off with a neat trick I read on the net smile.gif Using the edge of a shirt wrapped around it biggrin.gif

Here's the before shot, it's the one in the middle smile.gif

And now it looks something like this biggrin.gif

Well, I just finished sanding the head of the neck, to get rid of the logo...
There was a little problem with the frets on this guitar, which never really bothered me, but now that I started this
project I thought I might aswell fix that... The frets were coming out of the edges, and the strings, especially the High E, would get stuck underneath them ( that's what you get, when buying a cheap copy biggrin.gif ) but it's all fixed now, and the polishing and sanding of the neck gave it a really nice vintage look smile.gif

Next step would be starting to sand the body smile.gif But I'll have to leave that until tomorow ,
cause I have some plans for tonigth smile.gif

And I'll have to start desinging the new logo for the head

I'm gonna put my initials on the pickguard like SRV did, but instead of SRV, I'll put TKL on it biggrin.gif

And I'm thinking of some kind of logo behind the bridge also smile.gif

Cheers smile.gif

Nice project man, I like the fact that you can customize it to your likings. Are you gonna paint it to red?

laugh.gif Bender sound nice, but "Lame" sounds even cooler. Think about it, a Bender can't be anything about a copy, but for the other brand you can always say you have a genuine Lame guitar. biggrin.gif

No I don't thinks so, cause I have a black pick guard, and that wouldn't look good to me, and I'm not gonna buy new parts
for this guitar smile.gif

I was thinking of leaving it just the wood surface, of course some chemicals to protect it, and something to give it a cool dark wood look smile.gif That would be cool... biggrin.gif

Yeah laugh.gif I was thinking also leave it empty smile.gif

I just started sanding the body today, but didn't get much done cause the dust gets everywhere, and it's not good to inhale it, so I'll leave it to tomorrow... I'll take some equipment from work, so it's safer and more comfortable to do smile.gif

Cheers smile.gif
