I am looking for some advice on cosing pickups to replace on a Telecaster. From what I have read the vintage noiseless are what I am steering towards. I see there are also some cobalt versions out there as well. I have already ordered a 4 way switch to add series and parallel engagement of both pickups for a little extra kick. as well as new 250K Pots and a 0.047 orange cap. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Scoob What pickup arrangement will the Tele have? From what I understand telecasters come in as many pickup arrangements as stratocasters do these days. What pickup arrangement will the Tele have? From what I understand telecasters come in as many pickup arrangements as stratocasters do these days. Hardtail Below is a little blurb as to what I am looking to accomplish. As well as a Diagram. I have everything on it's way already. I went with the Fender Vintage Noiseless as I have read many peoples reviews and it seemed like an easy bet. They are the stock pickup with the American series Tele. Although it is too late the Stan Hinesley Memphis Blues series that Muris mentions sound good as well. Who knows, Sometimes it takes a couple tries before finding what sound your looking for. I found some interesting reading as well on different capacitor changes people use. I went with the 0.47 mfd orange drop tone cap. I found a kit that uses CTS 250 K solid shaft pots, Cap, Oak Grigsby 4 way switch, new Jack Plug and wiring at this site Tele 4 way switch Kit This is my plan for now. I may later change from the American style 6 saddle bridge to a vintage 3 saddle brass, I will wait as some say the intonation is better with the 6 saddle. As far as pick ups arrangements, anything you can fit in! I see some custom winds and other real "Hot" pickups available. I am looking for more Twang and smooth blues tones rather than a screamer. Thanks for the reply Scoob Muris: Thanks for the tip. If these vintage noiseless do not give me what I am looking for those ones you listed sound excellent. I see Fender also has the SCN Samarium Cobalt Noiseless Tele Pickup Set. MY local guitar tech had a set but did not have any input. They look like they have a higher inductance and would be hotter as well. So I did not take that option ________________________________________________________________________________ _______ Telecaster players have long debated the merits of having their pickups wired in parallel vs. series. In the traditional parallel wiring configuration, pickup output is relatively consistent across all three positions. A Telecaster with its pickups wired in series differs in that when both pickups are on at the same time, the combination produces fatter tone and higher output. The 4-position switch allows players to have both wiring options at once. The resulting pickup combinations are: * Position 1: Bridge Pickup (standard Tele) * Position 2: Bridge & Neck Pickups in Parallel (standard Tele) * Position 3: Neck Pickup (standard Tele) * Position 4: Bridge & Neck Pickups in Series (fatter tone than position 2, and more output than positions 1, 2, or 3) The ground must be lifted from the rhythm pickup cover (if there is one), and an additional ground wire added to maintain its shielding capability. Players with reverse wound, reverse polarity pickups will enjoy the added benefit of hum cancellation in positions 2 and 4. A wiring diagram is available here. ________________________________________________________________________________ _______ -------------------- GEAR

I completed my upgrade.
I switched out the Pots to CTS solid shaft 250K. I installed a .047 uf Orange drop capacitor. and a new 4 way switch. I had to mill the slot longer due to the extra switch travel. Make the volume and tone shaft holes larger and drill out the knobs as well. The difference in sound is incredible. Even without the 4th series pickup configuration. Take a look and liste and let me know what you think? Thanks Scoob This shows the milling of switch/knob plate.
