Task 42: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Palm_Muting_16th_Notes/
Gentlemen, you have done well with your previous riff based challenge. I invite you to work further on your palm muting skills with this mid tempo lesson. Just like the Warrior thread, there's not much to explain as it's quite basic.. so jump on in and feel the crunch !! Deadline is next Friday 23rd November or your family will find out about your My Little Pony collection.... Of course... you'll have no idea how they got underneath your bed and you will strenuously deny you knew anything about it.... but it will be too late by then... Excuse me for intruding, but are those even 16th notes? To be honest, I don't know ! When it comes to counting with 6/8 I get confused.... |

OMG, you're gonna get some serious hate mail now ! But credit where it's due, you've done a fab job ! Really even and controlled.. nice tone as well Try to nail that chord that happens at 0:51.. it's a different inversion of an E power chord and a really useful shape to move around the neck because it makes a chord sound really wide and expansive. I think you added the F# on the 2nd fret to it which muddled the chord.. Congrats.. the Donut is yours. Hey ben, I've done this once again. I've submitted it to the REC program. Hope it's OK. Once again, I want to thank you for your comments which help us to improve. You rock! -------------------- Million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten.

Hi Ben another great lesson this week. I think I had a light bulb moment tonight. look forward to your thoughts! http://soundcloud.com/zoomify/palm-muting-16th-note-lesson Grind that 2nd attempt was awesome. Well played. Zoom, the shred lord from Down Under !! Thanks for your take my friend ! I must admit I did let out a little giggle when I heard your tone.. not because there was anything wrong with it, but because it sounds so mild compared to the aggressive metal backing !! I like it though.. the Zoom man can play any metal track with any tone he wants ! The palm muting and chugging was most consistent on the bottom E string which is interesting as you would normally expect people to have more trouble keeping a consistent chug on the fattest string.. when you're on the A string from 0:29 onwards there's some slight dips on velocity of the pick hitting the string.. but it's well within your grasp so please don't take this as a criticism, just an interesting observation. The E string stuff is top notch so you'll have no problem translating that to the other strings. As the Double G noticed, you could work on reducing pauses between chords. This is usually a result of just needing 'thinking time for the fingers' before they shift to a new shape. It just improves over time with the more riff / chord work you do. Overall man, you've kicked major butt... I can't imagine you tackling and holding your own over a piece like this just a few months ago - well done ! |

Thought I would have another shot at this one. http://soundcloud.com/zoomify/palm-muting-16th-note-lesson-1 Hey man, you'll hate me but your first take was much more accurate with the timing as here you're quite in front of the beat. Maybe you had the drums too low whilst you were recording ?? I often do that sometimes and realise when I start playing that I can't hear what I'm playing to You have definitely improved the chord changes though.. there's not loads of space between them now - well done ! You had 2 rythm tracks recorded by the sound of it which were both in the centre.. if you have 2 tracks then you can pan one to the left and one to the right to widen your sound |
