Picking Hand

Mar 24 2009, 08:11 PM	Learning Rock Star Posts: 502 Joined: 6-February 09 From: israel	lol i sure have alot of questions today anyways i noticed that most people put their picking hand on the bridge almost parallel to the neck and palm mute with there back of the hand and side of the pinky but i play "muris style"(the fact the moris plays like i do relaxes me alredy cause he a very very good player) with myhand resting on the low e and i change the angle of my wrist to reach the other strings. my question is if there is any problom withthat technique and if you had a new student how would you recommend him to do? Some people do it like you and Muris, others rest the whole hand on the bridge others kinda float over the bridge and mute only if needed - Look at players like Marty Friedmann: His picking and muting looks very weird and wrong but it works for him so there is nothing wrong with it! I have found that when I play economy picking , hybrid and such that I have different picking then when I do alternate picking ! Alternate picking is trickier and it requires more control over sound then lets say economy picking. So you have to practice and find your way really. The best way to do that is , when you move tempos, when you get to faster ones, your right hand will either reach a huge block and not be able to progress, or it will move like it was moving trough medium tempos !
