GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Stolen Gear

Posted by: Paul Coutts Dec 17 2007, 07:09 AM

Ahhh....I'm so irritated at the moment.
I was browsing around on Souq.com (Dubai's equivalent of Ebay) and I see an Ibanez RG370DX....the very guitar that was stolen from me 3 years ago when playing a gig with my Ska band, The Sparkplugs. That guitar was my first "good" guitar, and I wanted an Ibanez ever since I started playing. I waited three years for that guitar.
AHHHH! So frustrating...but then, my story is nothing compared to what's going on with Strung Out right now...http://www.strungout.com/news.php
Have any of you guys had your stuff stolen?

Posted by: Paul Coutts Dec 17 2007, 08:24 AM

Posted by: Muris Dec 17 2007, 08:42 AM

That´s a sad story, my shecter diamond C7 was stolen too (was only 1 week old) so I know how it feels mad.gif

Posted by: Pavel Dec 17 2007, 10:12 AM

How did you guys got your gear stolen? All of you got robbed after gigs?

Posted by: Davide Dec 17 2007, 10:21 AM

my guitar was stolen before the gig even starts and it was my only 7string. We did build up the set in the pub one day before the gig and when I came back for the gig my guitar wasn´t there anymore. The pub owner apologies a few times but I´ve never saw my guitar anymore sad.gif

I had my gig bag stolen many years ago, I was on my way to rehearsal and was busting for the loo so stopped in some services quickly (stupid really looking back) I had my guitar and amp in the boot of the car and my gig bag was behind the driver seat, I was gone literally 5 mins, when I came back my car had been broken in to in that time they`d managed to rip out the car stereo and had taken my gig bag with all my pedals, leads etc, fortunalty they hadnt gone into the boot!

Posted by: Pavel Dec 17 2007, 11:42 AM

Maaaan that sucks! Should be extra careful with the gear....it's unbelievable how cheap people are - stealing pedals....

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Dec 17 2007, 11:51 AM

Nothing stolen here, athoguh I regurarly leave it unattended on gigs. I hope that you got your gear back, cause that really sucks... sad.gif

Back in California, someone somehow got into the band room at my school sometime at night (that's a lot of somes... laugh.gif) and got away with a Marshall stack, a wah-wah pedal, all kinds of stuff! It was both the school's gear and some students', it was pretty bad.

How ironic if it were the guys who got their bicycle tires slashed by the sound guy that stole strungout's van. mellow.gif

And that really sucks about your guitar... I'm guessing you're rather ...upset.., I know I would be.

When you say the very guitar you had stolen, is the one on ebay your exact one? or just the same model guitar. If it is the one you had stolen perhaps you could report it to the website or authorities or something? smile.gif

i had my gear stolen at my second ever gig! just bought a new guitar 2 weeks beforehand (it was only £85 but sounded brilliant).
i had that stolen, a fender strat (mexican), my gig bag with lyrics/leads/a couple of pedals in.

what makes it worse was that the gig was for charity... someone stole over £500 worth of gear from my second ever gig, which was a charity gig in which we made around £300.

just tell them youll sell your LP junior if they put the rest of the money towards an epiphone LP or an ibanez or summit.

Posted by: lefty01 Dec 19 2007, 12:21 AM

That really stinks.
I would contact the auction site, and file a complaint that the item is stolen. I know that (Ebay) will end the auction at least. Must be some real scum in the world, to steal from another musician. mad.gif

Posted by: Muris Dec 19 2007, 03:35 AM

If I got it right, item isn't on Ebay but on site in Dubai correspondent to Ebay.
Tho I wish you can stop auction even there smile.gif

Ibanez RG370DX? That's one of like 20 guitars on my wishlist right now. biggrin.gif

Man, my parents would kill me if I got my Strat stolen. I'd be so gutted if I was a theivee of such an expensive item. sad.gif

Maybe I should get my Strat stolen on purpose to get another guitar...

So when I see the title "stolen gear" I think to myself "hmmm, this a thread to come clean about gear that we've stolen?" turns out its just the opposite.... silly me.

I havn't had anything stolen, but Karma being what it is, something is bound to happen.....

When I was younger, I stole a music stand and a couple theory text books from a college. Before that, it was into corporate chain bookstores to pocket some chord books and books with general guitar knowledge, maybe an issue of Guitar World here and there. Its amazing what you'll get away with when people peg you as the obedient asian kid.

The way I saw it, it didn't belong to anybody yet. It wasn't like I stole it from a friend. And all I ever stole was knowledge (plus that music stand) and never a guitar/cables/pedals/amps. And I never stole from ma and pa places, only big corporate chains (my personal way of sticking it to the man). Regardless, thats no excuse for my actions. It was still wrong and looking back I'm not proud of it (well, maybe a little).

The funny thing is, it really helped my playing and my overall knowledge of music! I learned musical theory from a book I couldn't afford, and wrote my first piece in staff paper I didnt pay for. But like I said, It was wrong and I don't support/condone it wink.gif .

None of my stuff was stolen but last week some guys broke into the Musicstore in cologne and stole over 50 customshop guitars which were worth more than 250.000 euro all together!
