Maybe a bit non-direcctly guitar question but I think it might be really useful to a lot of people here, including me. A lot of the lessons here on GMC have guitar pro tabs, which is awesome. But making a tab in Guitar Pro is "Flippin' difficult". Question 1) Do you instructors make the own GP tabs?
Question 2) Could there come a little tutorial/series on making tabs in GP?

Just a question, if someone has too much spare time or so.

Greetings,
Jesse!

Guitar Pro can be difficult but I don't know if I've ever had a big problem with it. If you learn note values then you should be able to get it. Maybe you can take sometime to learn a little on that, but a lesson could be kinda cool.

I'm with Enucleation here - it is very important to understand the note values properly, and tabbing is walk in the park then.

Yep! Nice and useful... anyway I also thing the program ny itselft it's pretty straight forward. Maybe the problem it's more on music notation itself? As some mates said, learn the "time values" for the notes... the basics and then just play with the program.

Cheers all!

Been playing around with the trial of Guitar Pro 5 - Interesting but not really sure about buying and mastering yet another Guitar software program(I know it may help, but sometimes all this technology can detract from spending time just plain old learning), but its seems GMC is pushing it. I am a techie on computers and such and am starting to realize I burn way too much time on it all for the sake of efficiency, instead of focusing on just learning guitar by practicing, but I know its tool that could help

I Digress . . . .

But my question is, what legitamate web sites does everybody prefer to get the free songs Guitar Pro Tabs for Rock, etc. I've gone to a few , and some were locked due to copyright issues, yet the program developer themselves promote these. I hope this is okay to ask here at GMC - I assumed it would be since GMC is pushing that program for their use as well.

Are there one or 2 sites that seem to be the best ?

Thanks,

I think there are very few fully legal internet sites that provide tabs of copyrighted songs. Though, if I should want to download a tab, I'd go for www.ultimate-guitar.com, but I do usually make all the tabs I use myself tongue.gif

Tabs are a grey area and we are a little leery of them here at GMC - posting links is just about ok, but no hosting of copyrighted tabs on the forum please ...

Having said that, UG is one of the best resources I have found.

I also like www.ultimate-guitar.com but www.911tabs.com will give you more variety and includes ultimate-guitar as one of the sources. www.powertabs.net used to be great also but it has been closed for a while now. sad.gif

To sum it up I mainly use
www.911tabs.com
Hope this is helpful smile.gif

Cool - I didn't realize that the standard tab sites also now cover Guitar Pro tab format too(I am aware of Ultimate-Guitar. com and 911 tabs). I also found a site called:
www.gprotab.net that requires registering, but it is free.

It seems pretty good but its a bit slow navigating, but whats cool is I found an article that takes you step by step on how to create a tab in Guitar Pro, that might help new users and the original OP:

http://www.gprotab.net/articles.php

I haven't spent much time reading it yet - just playing around with GP at this point. Also good free documents on Theory.

One quick question - Does Guitar Pro 5 have any capability to bring in soundfonts, for better sounds for instruments(such as through VST plug-ins) Or are the instruments pretty well set through their RSE Sound Engine, or through an external Midi sound module(Such as hooking up a keyboard to use for voices). I notice when installing Guitar Pro 5 that it said it was installing various amps(such as vintage amps) but can't find any reference to that in the manual at all.

Half true. It has the RSE, but it sounds far from- "the real thing". Nothing you'd put on a CD but just about good enough to not sound annoying when playing through your tabs.

The most important thing in Guitar Pro is have some idea of rythm value so you know where to put the notes, I´n my case I use a score editor for the tabs you see in the main video page, then export it to midi, import with Gpro and there fixes any mistake.

Thanks - the problem was I had a corrupt install - RSE didn't activate correctly so I didn't have the option to hear them. A reinstall fixed it, but your right - far from real. It is also a bit of a memory hog, so I am having a hard time with complex tabs.

But its interesting

If you go on options on the top of the screen and then click Audio options, you get a menu where you can choose midi-outputs and input. I guess it has something to do with that?
