> Rules

Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner Sweep Picking #2 by Darius Wave

Hi guys! in my previous take I forgot to concentrate on the right hand sweep motion! (Also I know the intonation is bad, will try to fix it soon)

Thanks for this second take!

To me the actual sweep motion seems a bit improved from your last take. Even it's not perfect yet - I think that as you push speed, there is a chance the sweep will naturally fall into place. Sweeping is after all the natural thing to do when you have several consecutive/same direction pick strikes in a row.

There are some audible misses (00:10, 00:26) here, and tempo wise you seem to somewhat be drifting up and down. All this is likely caused by your focus on nailing the actual technique. So one solution would be to slow down a bit more so you have time to think about the other aspects as well.

Keep up the hard work, you get a 6 from me.

Hey there man! I'm afraid it's still not a sweep. What you managed to get is to minimize the "jumping" of the pick between strings but is still...jumping. Try to make a very fast random sweep and you'll see that they way you do it know has no chance to work at fast speeds. I do not focus on the misses yert becasue we need to fix the sweeping first. Go to the original lesson and replay a few times one of the slow parts. At the end there is a right hand zoom. don't let the very first pick stroke fool you. It's regualr always. Sweep is about what will happen with any next note after the first one. You don't ake away the pick from the string at all. Use thumb pressure on the pick to make it fall through another string until you will need to stop or change the direction - the you'll have another one, regualr pick stroke.

Hi mate,

Great to see you working hard on this one! smile.gif

As Darius and Kris said, this new take shows improvements regarding the things that we've commented in your previous take but there is still more work to do.

You need to adjust your Sweep Picking technique, so I recommend you to work on smaller sections instead of playing the whole thing. You can take one arpeggio or two and play them as a loop, focusing on making your sweep movement smoother. Remember to make the whole up and down sweeps as a unique movement, don't subdivide the movement for each note/string.

Ok mate, that's all by now, keep on the hard work!

Since one of us could not cast a vote on this we will close the thread.

To qualify for grading - be sure to work on the actual sweep motion as mentioned.
