Sure playing just about anything improves your skills, so the more you play now the better you will play tomorrow.
Not all practice is equally effective tho. Best way to advance fast is to "go to the woodshed". It's a common term that means that "musician has went into the woodshed and stayed there and practiced whole day and whole night for several weeks/months whatever and done nothing else". Of course this is just a figure of speak nobody is forcing you to actually go into the woodshed (yet.. smile.gif ), but to organize your practice sessions so you practice various techniques, scales, chord changes, music theory, ear training, song arranging and anything that you may think it is important and that you like.
Practicing songs only will get you motivated and it will be fun, but if you really want to advance you should learn the scales, I can possibly recommend minor pentatonic scale for starters. Learn all the 5 boxes well and it will be OK. I recommend my pentatonic workshop level 1 lesson for that. Also practice with metronome! You should get used to practicing everything with metronome, this way you will advance the best.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help. Cheers

Anything! smile.gif

Let me give you some examples:

- pentatonic scale pattern over the neck
- major scale patter over the neck

These two are very important, for the first pattern I gave you my pentatonic workshop series. Soon to come out is the series for the major scale pattern using both CAGED and 3 note per string method.

It would be best to learn some basic music theory as well, cause you can understand what you are practicing and playing better.

In general any kind of practice including any technique (hammer on, pull off, slide, bend, vibrato, strumming, tapping, sweeping) will help you be a more versatile musician. In parallel you can do ear training, song arrangement, famous song analysis etc.

Great tips from Ivan!
Read a good amount of theory. And when you get tired, take a "break" by finding a technique you love the sound of, search for it, and find a great lesson ^^

It would be even better if you could find a lesson including the theory you just learned, so you get to see/feel it in action, not just "in theory" (bad pun) wink.gif
