...also classical piano music. Now, that in itself is less strange, but lately my interest has wandered off to lesser known composers, rather than the more famous ones in Chopin, Bach, Beethoven and so on, and this channel has some great ones: https://www.youtube.com/c/Gamma1734/videos

Some of the Russian composers are really great, even if it's waltz and foxtrots, which is something I never thought I'd venture into. Yuri Slonov has some very melancholic and nostalgic pieces that send me longing for different times:

What is something that might surprise people that you listen to? smile.gif

I really dig old 80s synth pop these days but I HATED it when I was younger. It was just to soft and not aggressive. to "UN-Metal". Now I actually dig the stuff. so much so that I've started doing heavier cover versions of classic 80s tunes as you guys have probably noticed. Id like to do versions of all the songs below with a bit more guitar. Thats how I hear them when I listen.

Some classics smile.gif

A lot of 80s bands were seen much like the boy bands of the 90s/2000s in their day, due to the image side of things but there is some great musicianship and songwriting. Duran Duran still being a going concern who are still creating new music.
Guitar-wise Andy Taylor was pretty good, when he left to do Powerstation , Warren Cuccurullo came in and he was an amazing guitarist. Now I believe I read Graham Coxon from Blur is playing with them.

Ben
I find a lot of classical music is great for when I'm reading, although it often distracts me and I have to re-read whole pages when my ear catches something.
I also think it helps to give my central nervous system a break from rock music etc.

More modern composers like Einaudi who is very mainstream have influenced my fingerstyle acoustic playing.

Bach is great for the mandolin, and I'm slowly working on some of his pieces.

As for something I listen to that might suprise people hmm (apart from Brazilian Sertanejo)

I listen very varied types of music (from classical to blues, latino, R&B, dance, pop, rock'n roll, elctronic music, rock, etc).
It all depends of my mood but growing up with classical music and seeing all the operretas that have ever acting in my country, I have a lot's of days when I relax myself just listening such music.

As few examples from my playlists:

This is a ballad for violin and orchestra written by the Romanian composer Ciprian Porumbescu.

Something that I listen and surprise people.....hmmm.....probably would be this:

I think some black metal compositions sounds really cool and have a very beautiful melodic line.
It's weird but sometimes under the growl, lyrics and that drum, it shine a real diamond. To understand what I want to say, listen the same song from Dimmu Borgir played only at the piano. smile.gif

Nice examples!

I don't know if this will work, as it's a playlist, but we'll see. Maybe it works after the recent update. It's a soundtrack from a musical sort of movie. It's really great - and nearly shares a name with the more famous Phantom of the Opera (1986), however this was made in 1974. smile.gif

EDIT: Doesn't include the other songs on the playlist, but let me pick a few of them.

It also includes songs that are more "me" in style, such as these:

This thread is full of inspiring music! Most of this stuff is unknown for me, so I have a lot of new music to listen this week.

When I want to calm down my mind, I like listening to Post-Rock.
