Hi Guys,

I just seen a news report with a video of a 55yr old lady fighting off a young robber, who had a knife.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/elderly-woman-fen...ff-licence.html

It made me wonder if anybody here had ever experienced something similar, been on the receiving end of a crime or had a near miss ?

A couple of times some different guys have tried to pick a fight, but I've experienced nothing like a robbery.

In Tunisia a 10-12 year old kid came up behind me on a bike and grapped my new cap off my head.
We were 4 people in a group, but we didn't really react, he was too far away, when I realized what had happened.

It's so weird seeing kids being so confident about stealing and stuff.. I guess it's because they start so young and are so sure of themselves. dry.gif

When I was a kid my aunt was robbed on a street when we arrived near the hotel site in Crete Island, I tried to catch the lady that grab my aunts "woman bag" but she was to strong for a 10 year old:P

When I was 13-16 years old it was quite often that some big guys would ask for cash, few times I resisted and few times I gave the money after hearing about knives etc.

Also in this time period while on vacations a guy tried to steal my money, thankfully I caught him and smashed his damn face to pieces. It was quite an epic thing, because the chase involved jumping out of the window cool.gif

When I was 18 years old I was assaulted by two guys at night near my house, they had broken bottles as their "improvised weapons" and took my mobile phone. I tried to escape them buy it ain't easy in a long winter robe and "metalhead boots". To my surprise they were located by the police few months later - fools were so brainless that they used the phone they stole... But due to stupid law they are not in jail. There were no witnesses so when those dogs said that they had no weapons and I said they had weapons, the court had to assume the "charged person is right".

As You can see Poland isn't a safe place, although nowadays it is safer, or maybe I no longer look like an "easy pray", and am older. I have a possibility to carry a guy with me, but decide not to because I would most probably aim between the eyes... If not for the law I wouldn't mind, but unfortunately I could go to jail later, or at least it would cost tons of money to "play the court game well".

Me and a friend used to work security at a night club. We had to kick somebody out due to his obnoxious behavior. He gave us a hard time while we were escorting him to his car, so we pulled out the pepper spray. He then pulled out a revolver. Guess he wasn't going to get maced that night biggrin.gif

Once my mother and I were turning into our drive way when we seen a guy go running arcoss our lawn heading toward our neigbor's house. He stopped when he seen our car, turned and pointed a pistol at us and kept us covered while he run toward the car. My drive way has a bridge which runs across a small creek and the only way across is over the bridge and our car was sititng on the bridge. We locked the car doors and just sort of froze. The guy kept his pistol on us while he ran up onto the bridge and right past my cardoor (I was in the front passenger seat). He turned up the road behind us and continued running toward the neigbor's house. we managed to get the car up to the house and quickly get inside and call 911. While we were calling we heard approximatly six shots from the direction of our neigbor's house. We told the 911 operator about the shots and they told us to stay inside, lock the doors and stay away from the windows. We couldn't actually see what was going on at the neigbor's house because of the trees but heard 3 more shots. About 5 min. after we called 911 the cops started arriving. We seen no less than about 6-7 cop cars go past our house toward the neighbor's house. we seen cops with shotguns and automatic weapons sneaking through our yard (So much for staying away from the windows!) and at one point they had two dogs out trying to track the guy down. Here is the crazy part...they never caught the guy. Cops told us later he broke into my neighbor's house and tried to rob him. About half the shots we heard were from him and the other half were from the neighbor, who had seen the guy coming and figured something was up. Guy could have killed me and my mom real easy, all he would have to do is pull the trigger and at a range of probably less than 10 ft. its hard to miss. Found out later the guy had tried to break into our house as well, found big shoe prints and dents in the back door where he tried to kick it in, must have done that before we got there. I'm thankful this didn't turn out worse, and also happy the neighbor came out o.k. as well. Shortly after this happened I went and took a class to carry a concealed weapon, found out I didn't like feeling completely helpless, and now carry a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum on a regular basis.

Wow, that's hell of a story. So lucky he carried on past your car instead of stopping and hassling you two. Glad the neighbour came out ok too. smile.gif

I grew up in a very poor part of Liverpool so random violence and crime was pretty common. The police admitted in the local press that the area I lived in was a 'no go zone'.

One incident that did amuse me at the time though was when a friend who lived in a differnt bit of Liverpool called the police to say that a house was being burgled and he got this response, 'I'm sorry but we can't attend right now. I can't leave the station unattended and the rest of the station is on Brass Band practice and can't be disturbed. If you give me your details we'll send some one over later.'

I also got involved in a fight when my friends and I got attacked by a group of facist skinheads in the city centre. It was a Saturday afternoon and there were police around who saw the fight but did nothing. One of my friends lost an eye and two others ended up in hospital.

Years later I worked in a pub in Brighton. I've been glassed (still have some shards in my left hand) and also had one guy who poured petrol on me and threatened to torch me. When we ejected him he did the usual line of 'I know where you live' rolleyes.gif . We had already called the police about him and their response was, 'Until he attacks someone we cannot attend'.

Tony, I'm frankly horrified by those tales... it just shows how close we walk to danger all the time without realising it. Can't believe the pretrol guy.. what a gigantic tool.

To a great extent he was a product/victim of the Thatcherite government that decided to implement 'care in the community' to save money Ben. He was known to have significant mental health issues and had been resident in a home but was 'released' back in to the community as part of that policy and was living in a squat near the pub. Even after we had barred him repeatedly he would still try to come in and rant. I also used to have to walk past him everyday on my way to work at the pub. He was as mad as a box of frogs and really needed professional care rather than 'care in the community' cost savings.
