GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Ballad Style Video

Hey GMC! I have a new video that I played ballad style. In this video I used some of the licks from "Andre Nieri's Melodic Phrasing" lesson. I started to learn the lesson but especially fingerstyle technique is so hard for me, so I decided to play in a different way

Such delicate phrases and soulful touch! I enjoyed it mate - that bend at 0:37 - Marvelous! You could add a them to it and make song out of it - what say you?
There are some bends that could be nicer - such as the one at 0:05 - that one is not quite touching the pitch. Overall, it reminds me of John Mayer at some points and that's ALWAYS good. You can have some fun with this lesson on that strat, if you like

Yes Cosmin you are right! Some bends are not exactly what I wanted, but some of them is better
I think bending is a not only cool but also so expressive prosess, then I know that I have to play bending notes more careful. And yes I like the bend at 0:37 too

And yes I like the bend at 0:37 too Bahadir, my friend - you are a very expressive person out of what I can notice, but stay focused so that you can play all the articulation elements with a nice touch and with correct pitch. Also, I noticed you are using dynamics - playing louder or quieter - was it on purpose? Because if it was, it's very good!

Yes, I like dynamics not only in music but also in my life! I think, exactly the same sentences with dynamics are more expressive than the ones that dynamics are not used!

I really like this! Your slides and bends feel very natural in this, I can see this developing into a really nice instrumental ballad Also, that's a lot of guitars you got in the rack behind you!

seems like your taking the masters advice, you know I like your gtr playing even though there is no reoccurring theme, there are a couple of lead lines that have the same flow(like 25-30), this is were the magic happens and me as a listener can start to associate something in my life with the notes that make the song speak to me(or whomever) and the stronger your guitar notes have purpose the easier the listener will be able to bond with the song
can you see from a listeners perspective that he needs something to bond with ? other wise its just notes

Yes you are absolutely right man! I always try to fell the conversation while playin guitar and try to use fewer words in order to explain my sentences especially in ballad style. This is hard to do it in rock or fusion style for me! According to me it is easier in ballad.

This is something which every musician, guitar playing or not, should have in mind - building a relationship with the listener. Bonding those notes, as somehow, if you play/write from the heart, there's likely to be a few millions of people that have gone through similar experiences - relate to them and bingo - you are transmitting a world scale message Pffff - yeah, well, fusion is not about speaking
In my opinion, of course I think the only fusion player I know, that can tell a story, would be Al Di Meola
But that's just me
