Hello Gabriel!

And let me start off by saying - A big friggin thank you for doing this!

- How many time have you been playing guitar?
Been playing guitar on and off for about 6 years.

- Favorite guitarists, bands and musicians.
My absolutley most favorite guitarists are the Amott-brothers from Arch Enemy and Jesper Stromblad from inflames.
I have so many "favorite" bands that it's hard to list them all. I list a few current ones.
* Arch Enemy
* In Flames (the older records)
* As I lay Dying
* Anterior

- What are your guitar goals?
My goals are to be able to play fluidly without having to think about it. Always have a melody in everything. Like the song is taking you on a journey. Speed is desired but not on the cost of quality and feeling . My position as a guitarist is to cover the lead parts.

- How would you like to you see yourself in 5 years (related to music and guitar)?
Have a decent band again and just having fun with the passion I love.
Since Im mixing alot by myself - perhaps have a "solo album".

- How many time can you play guitar each day?
It depends, but atleast 2 hours. Sometimes up to 4-5 hours. I have young kids, so it all depends how much time I can squeeze in

- Do you have playing live experience?
No live experiences yet. Been in rehearsals for god knows how long. But the bands always quit before the shows started happening.

- Which are your strong and weak points with guitar?
My weak points are probably theory. Ive played along bands that I like for so long, so I know what sounds good and what doesnt. But I dont know the theory behind those awesome melodies. And I need to work on my legato/speed and phrasing.
My strong points are probably riffing in general, pinch harmonics and pretty good at muting unwanted noise at higher speeds.

- What do you know about theory?
Not much . I know my way around on the fretboard with minor/harmonic minor and pentatonics thanks to most bands I listen to often plays around those scales. But thats it.

- Can you record videos of you playing?
I can make it happen. Though I dont own a camera yet. Ive been planing on fireing up a youtubechannel for sometime now, since I have a ton of selfproduced music laying around.

- Share here audios and videos that you've recorded.

hehehe amazing stuff mate! I love that song by Arch Enemy, maybe their fans will hate me, but it's my favorite. The guitar works reminds me to the old In Flames, but it still sounds modern. It's fantastic. And you played it very tight. Good job.

About your composition, it's very promising! It sounds like the pros. There are some little timing issues here and there but nothing very serious, just pay attention to it. The riff starting at 1:21!! ohh, I want to hear that part live on a concert. It's epic.

I can say that I'm surprised of the quality of these recordings. I could confirm that your rhythm ability is very tight so now it's time to focus on soloing to take your technique to that level. As there aren't solos on your recording, I'm not sure about your level but I will suggest lessons for each topic and then you can tell me if you want to change any of them.

And I agree, arch enemy's latest album is growing on me more and more. At first I was a litle sceptic due to a new vocalist - but its really awesome!!

Yea timing is another weak point I have, mostly when its oddtiming, and not the standard "one, two, three, four".

Thanks alot alot for the input on my own track, at 1:21!! I love that part aswell. I tend to often write like that - a slower, more heavy part somwhere in the song - build ups.


The lessons you provided seems to be really good for me. I will get right on it after work . My vacation is starting next week - which means I got alot of extra time! Awesome!

I like the lessons you provided, especially the modal madness and pacing!!

I have a question. I seem to struggle a lot above the 14-15th frets. And specific lesson that focus on those parts?

This also leads to another problem.
Im having a real hard time to play 20-22 frets on my les paul (which only has 22 frets). Guess I should invest in another guitar with easier access.

About les pauls... yes, that's a disadvantage of these guitars. If you are planning to use high frets, you should check other guitars. If you Sant to gol for a similar sound you can try prs singlecut or ltd ec models. Do you know them?

Hi again, I would like to discuss a bit more what's the problem that you find playing licks on frets 13 and 14. Is this a problem related to your guitar? What happens? The notes doesn't sound? Do you have a video to let me see you playing it?

Hi gab!

The problem I'm facing has to do with fingering most of the time.
Since I'm too used to playing with all four fingers <12th fret, Im struggling to figure out good fingerings when the fretboard gets "tight" above the 15th fret.
And when Im playing above 14-15th fret, the pick always gets "stuck" on the strings more often, I have no clue why.

(And Ill add - I don't have huge fingers either )


So its not guitar-related in that fashion. The problem I have with the guitar is that is hard to play fluidly above the 19th fret while sweeppicking etc, its like there is no room.

Im currently looking for an extra guitar. Checking out LTD ec-401 and ltd MH-series.

Well, the best way to give you correct feedback about this would be to see you playing the licks. Is it possible to see a video of you playing?
It can be a problem related to the place you position your thumb and the angle of your left hand while you play but I have to see you. If this is not possible, you should at least compare your left hand position compared to Zsolt in Modal Madness lesson and tell me what differences you note...

Im sorry, its just me rambling. I figure its just me not being used to play higher up. I'm pretty good at playing below the 12th fret.
So i think Ill just apply scales an octave higher aswell, to get used to it more


So Ill take modal madness, and focus more above the 12th!etc..

I'm working on getting a Cam by the way.

Yes, sometimes it's just that you need more practice. You can transpose one octave higher the exercises and licks that you've been practicing in the past to get more used to the higher positions, and maybe add this lesson to your routine:
