Posted by: mattacuk Nov 16 2007, 01:46 AM
With after dinner shredding of couse I found this video and found it so ultra cool I just had to share. I love the fact his guests look like they are all dressed up, and the house looks pretty nice!
So here is the video, check out the ultra cool kill switch useage, some awsome sweep tap arpeggios !

Buckethead has released like 12 albums in the last 3 years, its standing at like 3-4 a year at current, I personally think that is an epic amount of output for a single guy!

Wonder if hes endorsed by KFC.
He might even be the first guitarist endorsed by a huge fast food chain I bet.

Your welcome!
Knowone is entirley sure why he hides behind the mask and bucket. Ive read as much as possible on him, and recently I have obtained a guitar magazine with lessons and interveiw.(the only known magazine hes done)
My personal feeling is that he just feels comfortable behind it, and it allows him to expressive himself artistcally.
Alot of his music is quite deep, titles like "for mom" and "watching the boats with my dad" to name a few show what I think is quite a sensitive soul.
The "blank male mask" I think he chose because he chooses to put the ephasis on his music rather than image. Of course the paradox of that is that he has created unqiue persona all of his own!
He has strong ties to Paul Gilbert from what I can make out. Its common knowledge he took lessons with Paul for at least one year, but Bucket has mentioned in several interveiws the fact paul often comes around his house (apprently with shawn lane tapes
).
Paul mentions on his own site that he is not infact buckethead (you can tell he isnt because bucket is near 7 feet tall with full costume and much larger in frame. Also on Bucketheads site he mentions Paul gilbert.
There are so many fantastic players around at the moment, but the reason Buckethead is my personal favorite is for many reasons!
The first and most obvious is that he has taken playing to the absolute technical limits, his accuracy and timeing are on par with paul gilberts, but he has a very original and unique sound.
His genre ranges from full out shred to ultra mellow blues, there is nothing he doesent do well!
The second thing is that this guy is pretty much a fruit loop
But thats ok... I am a pretty crazy guy myself, i like fun things and I dont take myself or my music to seriously

Thanks m8,
Thats quite a good way of looking at it, however, I think putting a KFC bucket on your head is pretty much gunna distract people from his music, and ofc as you said think of him as a fruit cake
I`m not knocking the guy, your quite right he is an amazing guitarist, just trying to understand it a little thats all

No worries! I dont think anyone will truley know why he has the bucket! But to be honest, even when i first listened to him play the bucket didnt really stand out for more than a few minutes.
When your new to Buckethead of course its right in your face! but it seems to become transparent the more you listen. When i watch him play with emotion and see the blank expression stareing back it creates some kind of enigma. It almost like a blank canvas... I think i see it in an artistic way because i myself am an artist.

That is a kill switch, he is a master of it..... not many people use it such effect!
This is a great example, he uses it mainly when riffing;

This Video is my 2nd favorite, i love the equisite phraseing and the heavy / soft contrasts

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel. I love how he wrote the Colma album specifically for his mom when she was in the hospital. Everyone who knows him personally seems to confirm that he's great in person too, I'd really love to meet him sometime.

Seems like a bit of a lonely guy.
But I here and see so many Gilbert licks in Bucketheads playing. I wonder why
In his one and only magazine interveiw, he says Paul comes around to his house and brings him shawn lane video tapes all the time

Well the thing about buckethead is.... hes a Giant !!! His frame is absolutely huge, his shoulders and hands massive - he probably uses them to scare children
Paul is very tiny in frame, very slight of build.
Check out the Bass player to buckets left in comparison !!

PS, I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DO THIS !!!

Those backing tracks Buckethead had set up at the dinner party youtube video are pretty cool.
I've seen a couple of videos on youtube of him playing both the bass guitar and the banjo, man he can play those at such a high level also, this guy is an amazing musician...
I'm too lazy to post the bass guitar and banjo video right now, I just had a plate of spagetti and I'm suffering from carbo overload, can't keep my eyes open!
