GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Can´t Take A Decision

Hey guys,
when I get back the money my father lent from me, I´ll buy an multi-effect. However, I don´t know which to buy. O_ô I have some pedals in view:

Which one would you buy and why? Or would you choose another which fits with the price area ( -300€ or -345$)?

Personally I'd try and also demo a Roland GT8 (discontinued but you should be able to find some bargains because of that) and a Pod XT Live and the Vox Tonelab if you can. I think that all should just about come in at 350USD if you look around and maybe haggle a bit with the shop.
Just my personal opinion but over the years I've never been a fan of Digitech - I tend to find them a bit sterile and artificial sounding and also not that robust but I've not tried one in a few years so maybe they're much better nowadays.
However it's just my opinion and what is more important is that you check out a range of different multifxs to find the one you think is best - sound wise, build quality and that you can work with. With an awful lot of multis you need one that you understand so that you can make your own patches/programs as the factory ones usually don't get the best out of them.

I´ve read some reviews about DigiTech products. The average reliability of the GNX3000 is 9.3, the one of the Jimmy Hendrix Experience is 9.0 and some older products are worse. All in all, the new products are more robust.
I heard that BOSS is a very confident multi-fx producer. The GT series are pretty good I think. But this is "a bit" expensive. ^^" If I´ll get some live gigs to play, I´ll earn some money and will be able to buy one. I´m really looking forward to this.

Boss ME50 is a great multiFX unit too, so is ME20
I would say also that RP500 is more simple and straightforward solution.

You can probably get a GT-8 on ebay for the same price as the Digitech boards now.

GT-8 or GT-10 boss from Roland is much better than Digitech

So, I´ve been thinking about your posts and I changed my opinion and I would like to buy a Boss GT-8. However, it´s a bit expensive and I can´t afford it at the moment. Additionally, I don´t need it, seriously. I only need a recording possibility with some effects and of course a programm (Reaper would be good IMO).
Now my question: Which audio interface would you recommend? I have already looked for some and I discovered the Pocket Pod. Unfortunately, one cannot record with this. -.- Another is Korg Pandora which I just discovered. Is it good? Or (Ivan´s) Toneport? Or another one?

Well with GT8 you can even get a good entry level professional sound card like EMU 0404. It has quality converters and you can plug GT8 directly in it. I wouldn't recommend Toneport if you are planning to get a GT8 eventually. 0404 plus a software modeler like Guitar Rig or Amplitube LE ( comes bundled) wil ldo the job nicely until you get GT8.

Let´s say I don´t plan buying a GT-8. What would be the best and cheapest recording possibilty?

If you want a versatile rig for both home and gigs, buy pedals and a real amp.
If not, just get a pod or something like lavendell.

Wow, that´s awesome. I´ve just seen some videos and noone can say that it´s a bad. However, it´s a bit expensive and so I´ll have to wait until I have 250 euros...

What´s your opinion about the PANDORA PX4A? It´s a lot cheaper and is maybe very good. I´ll read some reviews and wait for your personal opinions and experiences.

I find toneport very, very good for recording...It also features some effects and amp simulators..But than that option would be for recording and jamming on your PC its good for that..But you would not need a good multieffects processor besides that and maybe you could invest in your amp and buy some stompbox pedals ?

Rocktron is just awesome when it comes to drive and efxs are decent.
Buty if you want something ONLY for recording,
well then you should think of audio card as well,
audio card with good AD converters.
Recently I'm using Nygel plugin from my UAD project pack DSP card,
sounds really great.
Just another solution to think of.

I don´t have any gigs yet. In future, I´ll probably have some. So, I needn´t a multi fx pedal board very much. I thought that the RP500 or GNX3000 would be perfect. But then I discovered some other possibilities.
You say that I need an audio card. I don´t have a clue in that category. Which would be ok for home recording?
And what about the Pandora PX4A? Is it good to record oneself?
I´ll buy it maybe. It has a good overall impression. What about the software? Is it ok?
