He makes some very good points. One does need to learn the fretboard to some degree. Some folks prefer not to and thats certainly one approach. I just think it's like wandering around in the dark and hoping for the best smile.gif He also mentions how personality impacts playing style and I have to agree there as well smile.gif Eventually, players tend to develop a style and you can tell it's them playing just by hearing it. some players never get quite that far. Sort of like learning the fretboard, or learning anything really, there is an aspect of it that just takes quite bit of time and effort. Of course, thats the opposite of what many new players want to hear so they get sucked in to paying for courses that promise immediate results and such.

I still remember pouring over this issue of Guitarist, The Zakk interview was great but it also introduced me to the Folk singer songwriter Clive Gregson

I miss going and buying Guitarist magazine each month back then, I had quite a collection of them.

Zakk sounds nice and healthy now he's been sober for a while (didn't realise he has been since 2009)

I noticed that smile.gif It's not really "proper" technique as such, but I to find myself going thumbless when I want to reduce the pressure on my hand/wrist during fast bits and such. It's a very handy technique.
