GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Progress Topic Of Me

Posted by: Mrblomme Jan 7 2008, 09:46 PM

I'll follow Iluha's topic with one of my own. I know if I don't do this I will start to skip a day or maybe more of practice but now that i'll post my progress for let's say every week I think it'll get better.

Ok first thing to say is that I now play the guitar for 1 year. The first lets say 9 months I only practiced chords with my teacher so I didn't learn that much. Now I'm at GMC for like 4 months and I allready improved but not that much because I dont have the discipline. Thats why I started the topic.

Since on the end of the month I'll play at a small gig at my school I'll have to play that song every day.
I say I play it 15minutes but that can be way more if I have much time to spend.

If someone has to say something on my schedule or something, please post. I think I'll post my progress around next sunday.

I think it's imperative to have a good practice routine like that when you're first starting out. I used to do the practice 8 hours a day thing, but that was a long time ago. I simply don't have the time to do it now, but I do know that as a result of having a solid practice routine for years and years, I can pick up on things fairly quick now and learning new stuff isn't nearly as challenging as it used to be. I think you have a pretty solid routine set out there and if you stick to it, you should notice results in a relatively fast time frame. Also, I've found that if you get to a point where you're stuck, or simply in a rut, just put the guitar down for at least a week. I know it's hard, but just taking a break from practicing and playing for a while will help with a lot of things like muscle memory and inspiration. smile.gif

Now I'm only on my routine for 2 days but for so far I allready improved a little.

Some excercises go allready good, well not good good but just good. tongue.gif
There are some excercises which I allready can play for lets say 4/10th but without metronome, just to get the picking right for now.

Also some excersises allready go with the metronome, just on low BPM (40 or 50) but they start to work.

Then there is the legato excersise which doesn't goes that well, the sound of my legato's are not always clear enough but I'm working on that.

And last but not least there is the minor pentatonic scale from which I want to learn all the boxes. I allready managed to learn 3 of them pretty good. Not at huge BPM but I allready can play them up and down the neck without (or with small) problems. The 4th and 5th I can play a little but now I specially learn the first 3.

Tomorrow there's a repetition for the small gig's at the end of the month and I'm really looking forward to it because I haven't played together with that guys. Caus its a band specially for that gig with guys from my school.

This was my small update.
See you guys till the next update and dont forget to post your opinion about my schedule. wink.gif

Waarom moet je optreden? 100-dagen ofzo?

For the people who dont understand this, this is Dutch, the language that Davidian and I are speaking.

@Iluha: Thanks smile.gif
