Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Beginner Solo in D by Muris Varajic

Hello GMC! That one was a really fun lesson to work on with many new techniques for me. I tried to work on my vibrato technique by reducing the movement of my fingers. I'm not really satisfied with it yet but I hope there's an improvement. ps: yeah, 0:29 is a failed pickup switch... :D

Very cool,

I get the impression your vibrato is maturing at a frightening tempo!

For example at 00:07 - timing is splendid. You don't start it too early and you build it up gradually - beautiful!

There are a few missed/muffled notes - and I would really like to see your tone/mix match the level of your playing (you will then blow us away).

But overall you are doing amazing REC progress. You get an 8 from me!

Hey there!

Kris has a very good point here. Despite some little flaws, you are quite smooth in some techniques already. You have good sense of pitch (besides the last bend that went off), your vibrato get's fluent and your tapping was ncie and clean here. The biggest thing that takes 50% of impression is something not much related to playing itself. You need take a very short break and establish what you can do to boost the quality of your recordings and guitar tone itself.

You still have that careful/gentle playing maneer characteristic for beginners/intermediates but this is something hard to explain at this point and will not work just because someone will say do it harder. With your attitude and progress in time, you'll get to that point on your own

Hi Sack!

There are things to improve here but I can say that you are on the right track mate! This lesson is demanding for beginners because it includes many techniques in a short solo. You can play all parts clean and tight, you just need to work a bit on 2 elements to take this to the next level:

Vibrato: Your vibrato is getting better, just keep on focusing on this technique trying to make it more consistent.

Bending: Sometimes you don't reach the right pitch (for example at 00:51)

Besides this, I would tweak a bit your guitar tone, to make it sound warmer, and off course isolate that sweep picking lick (first one) and work on it at slower tempo to make it sound clean.

Keep on the good job!
