the voice Options

i'd like some opinions, is the voice something that can be trained to be good like guitar skills. or is someone who can't sing never going to have any hope of singing.

just asking as this came up in a discussion with a few friends. (also as i can't sing at all )

Well I definately believe it's something that can be trained, just like with the guitar. So that's why I am practcing it pretty seriously - can't prove my point yet though...

Yes mate. It can. What's more difficult to train, is accurate pitching, but you can strengthen your voice to give it more tone, and to stretch your range slightly. (Just like doing exercises to strenghten vibrato on guitar etc). The problem is that you'll sound like a complete idiot doing them, but after a few months your voice should have improved quite significantly.

Can't promise that you'll have a voice like Freddy Mercury, but it should be decent enough to sing live in front of people.

And if you cant sing at all , be like Jimi Hendrix , he didnt really sing , more like talking in the mic .
And he got pretty famous..

Indeed, you also get better working with a mic, controlling it by how close you are. I enhance vox a bit with a nice effect rack that adds chorus and reverb, I also use delay and sometimes echo. Pitch correction devices are becoming more affordable too, but I dont have one of those.
Everyone agrees people can improve vocals.

One way would be to just sing a long to your favorite songs (pick songs that seem fairly doable) - eventually lower the volume (after weeks and weeks) and listen to yourself.

There are probably others on this board who know more about singing than me... /Kris
