Probably not
Such experienced players will improvise a bit if they screwed up something or forgot a lick or whatever. And usually they don`t play stuff, on a stage, about they aren`t sure 100% that they can do it
Interesting what Marcus will say tho.

Lol, OF COURSE I already had such a moment on stage, but in BG we follow the most important Rock'n'Roll rule ever:
Whatever happens, NEVER stop playing!!!!
If one of us gets lost, we continue the song, and the lost one will find his way back into the song, sooner or later (hopefully sooner )
And to give you one example, my fave nightmare was on the last tour, while we played the Bard Song. Since 1992, when the song was released, we played it at every singe show, but on that night I just had a black out and got completely lost right after the first chorus. Andre started to play the solo and I just had no clue at all about the chords Took me about 10 seconds (which felt like 1000000 years in that moment) to get back into the song but then everyting was fine again, the only effect was that I practiced the song again before the next show
We are all human beings, also professionals screw up from time to time.

Of all the Blind Guardian songs, the Bard's would have let you off the hook on this one, for sure. They were all singing anyway...wouldn't have noticed! LOL
I have not really noticed many screw ups in concerts, but having seen KISS three times on the Alive Worldwide tour in 96, they had some classic gaffs. There was a hybrid of Deuce and Love Gun...nobody knew what they were playing. Nobody cared. It was still awesome!
When I go to a concert, I'm just happy to be there.
Thanks for the story, Marcus.
Cheers!

Before the show stars, I have to go to the bathroom, no matter what. If I don't, I will surely screw it up. And it already happens!!. One time, I forgot a whole part of one solo, and I was just like "What the hell is coming right now!!??". And I just play notes without know why and luckily, I find the line later. But that happened because I didn't go to the bathroom!!. Jajaja. So I know how it feels Marcus.

You just didn't care about another golden rule when it comes to playing live... never, and I mean NEVER think about what you are playing, just play!!! Sounds weird? Mabye, but it for sure works. As long as I don't think about the parts of our songs I never have problems, the problems only start as soon as I start to think about what I am actually playing or what I will have to play next. Just trust the autopilot ( Well, to be able to do so you will have to properly rehearse before the show of course)

I have no problem believing that. IT is like football (soccer). If you ever start to wonder how you are actually shooting the ball, you will fail - big.

It's nice to know that it can even happen to someone at your level too Marcus!!

Of course it happens, to everybody, we all fail from time to time And people that have seen us at Bloodstock this year might have realized about the biggest failure in BG history... lol

This one is very true. At the last gig i managed to screw up completely on a song that ive played for over a year just because i got a little bit unsure and started thinking "hmm, which part comes next?". But the new song that i had just finished the guitars for 5 days before the gig went perfect.

What did you do?

Hehe, isn't it a weird feeling when sometimes you just forget about everything that happens in a song and you are there on stage wondering what the heck comes next?
About Bloodstock... well, for this festival season we played a new song, Sacred. We wrote it for the computer game Sacred II and before those festivals we never played it live, so there was no real routine to that song yet, the autopilot didn't work properly yet, but until Bloodstock we always played it very well. Well, and then came Bloodstock :-)
Everything was fine until the first chorus, but then I jumped in the wrong part, I played the part that is supposed to come only after the second chorus... and this triggered the catastrophe Normally when one of us gets lost we just look at each other shortly, pay attention to what the others are playing, and we are back on track immediately... this time that didn't work cause my little improvisation made everybody lose track of what should be played, and for about 30 seconds all of us played something different.. only after that we got back into the song and finished it without problems. But of course something like this can mess up with your mind big time... after that we played Lord of the rings, a song that we played a billion times, and in the moment when Hansi announced it I had a complete black out, I didn't even know the key of the song anymore But here the autopilot stepped in again, I had no clue what to play, but I just played, and the version was very good

Hehe why not - I did that with a [weird sounding] fusion trio I had going on. I didn't know what to play so I stopped, so did the bassist and all of a sudden we had...
Drum Solo! I don't think anyone noticed
Well ok fusion trio isn't rock n roll- so I realise you rule doesn't apply

Hehe, I can imagine everyone playing their own little tune for 30 sec
"
Blind Improv" - a new kind of show
Good thing everyone got their autopilot back at the end though!
I get blackouts too sometimes, really awful

Yeah, I hate them, but as I said, normally the autopilot works pretty fine
