GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Streaming Files Problems!

Posted by: Muris Mar 24 2008, 08:06 PM

Need help guys! unsure.gif

I've had some major issues with all streaming files in last 2 days,
videos are playing like in slow motion, same with audio, sounds like slowed down...
Lessons here at GMC,videos on Youtube,MP3s on MySpace etc, nothing is working.

Dunno what caused this,I'm scanning all HDs to check it there's some virus.

Another weird thing have happened, when I click with mouse I don't get regular "click" sound
but some weird efxs sound, same with all actions I perform with mouse, weird and disturbing sounds.
I checked sound device option at Control Panel in Windows,it's on Windows default scheme.

Any ideas,anyone?? sad.gif

Worst case scenario: spyware that will steal all your GMC/credit card/everything passwords/codes. So my advice:

1) Disconnect off the Internet.
2) Back up all your stuff.
3) Reformat and reinstall Windows.

And don't forget to change all your passwords afterwards.

Well, first i would check everything you can like if your audio drivers are up to date etc.

Next i would do a search on google for the problem you have like, " My streaming files are ultraslow" Chances are that your not the only one with that problem, and if your lucky somesone else might have found a solution.

Hope it works out for you.

Posted by: mattacuk Mar 24 2008, 08:49 PM

I would say reformatting is a last ditch solution though !! wink.gif
It could very well be a problem with your connection, possibly a busy network between you and your ISP.

The mouse thing sounds off though, never come across that one im afriad sad.gif

Can you download files ok (non streaming)? or is that slow too?

Posted by: SinoMan Mar 24 2008, 08:49 PM

You can have a full reinstall in like 3-4 hours. Maybe try ctrl+alt+del and tell us your CPU usage?

Also, as mattacuk said, tell us if offline videos work OK.

It varies from 28-39%,I have AVG scan running atm.
CPU is Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz.

Is that ok?

Posted by: SinoMan Mar 24 2008, 08:52 PM

I'm 99% sure this is some kind of badware. Why the heck should your mouse make weird noises? Maybe a driver but I doubt that unless you did something to your system config.

And yeah, 28-39% CPU usage is OK.

I haven't touched System Config.,really.

All I did few days ago was installing new webcam(Logitech UltraVision)
and updating WMP up to version 11(needed it to be able to record video with this cam).

But problem occurred just yesterday, not right after I installed webcam and updated WMP.

And I just cannot find how to assign back regular "click" sound to mouse...

Update:AVG just locate a threat in Widows folder

Nothing, infected file has been moved to vault
but I still have same the issue with streaming. sad.gif

What about playing local video files(i.e. offline)?

Posted by: wrk Mar 24 2008, 10:09 PM

Just an idea ... have you tried to use a different browser?

Local files(from HD) work just fine.

Now,I have one good and one bad news.

Good one,I solved all issues,I've got back good old "click" sound
and streaming is working fine again.

Bad news,I solved issues by uninstalling webcam and its drivers,
and I really NEED a webcam. mellow.gif

What did I do wrong, how can web can affect streaming?
It's was OFF most of the time. unsure.gif

I guess when you installed the webcam some video/audio components where installed as well and these are in conflict with your plugins you use for streaming media.
- maybe there is an update available of your webcam driver?
- do you install some additional software for your webcam as well?

Yeah,I did install software as well.

Now,I've installed it again and everything seems to be working fine,
both cam and streaming. unsure.gif

Not sure how long it'll stay that way,
I remember it was working fine when I installed it for the first time.

Maybe after I restart Windows the problem starts...

great to hear it works. The good point is .. now you know what to do if it happens again wink.gif

The first time ... did you installed WMP before or after the webcam driver/software? Normally it shouldn't matter, but sometimes it's weird stuff like this causing some problems.

Anyway ... wish you luck it won't happen again.

Thanks,I feel a lot better now!! smile.gif

That's the good one, first time I updated WMP AFTER webcam software/drivers have been installed.
Now(last attempt) I haven't done anything with WPM since I have latest version already.

That might caused problem but why?
The answer will stay forever somewhere on MS shelfs I guess. biggrin.gif

Question: What is WMP and where did you find it?

Hey Muris,

I just have a question which anti virus software do you use ?
Because some Logitech Webcams and Kaspersky Anti Virus (I'm not sure which version of Kaspersky) have some problems working together.

Just a small information, it's always good to know wink.gif
