GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ New Year? New Goals?

Hello friends!! I wish you all a happy new year. These days are usually days in which we do balances of what we've done, and plan new goals for the year coming...
so the question is:
What are your Guitar Goals for 2017?

Hi Gabriel
YEs, i have some about guitar
work on:
- rythm: still have issue with because it lack of work, but i have done some improvement since i play every week in a pub with other guys
- legato: faster, cleaner, with more complex licks and more strenght
- sweep: almost unvolontary i do some sweeping, so i think it's time this years to start to work on
- strange scale: yes sometime i love to know more scales !!!!

Interesting and clear goals Laurent. We can definitely work on this at the mentoring program. Your work on 2016 has been really impressive so I'm sure that this will be a great year for your guitar playing. Keep rocking.

Sucking less than I did three years ago.
Ok, this is not a New Year Resolution, just sharing with you my visions for the year ahead. For various reasons, I haven't practiced guitar for a few years, but I want to come back to creating music in general and guitar bits in particular. Therefore, my goal for 2017 is to post one Level 6+ take every two months. The ones I foremostly have in mind are Winter Tune III (and possibly IV, both of which should not have to wait until it's not winter anymore), a couple of other Piotr and also Ben lessons (I will postpone Michael Schenker for another year or four), and possibly one or two Guido tunes.

To enjoy myself. I've put myself under such unneeded pressure about practice and progress in the last few years, and now when I don't have much of a musical outlet (not playing in public at the moment) and I have other things that need to take priority.
I have decided I will just enjoy my time with the guitar, if I feel the urge to work on triads or sweep picking etc I will but I won't force myself to do anything or feel guilty for not doing something.
I was working on the major scale the other day with a focus on hitting the triad notes of it and then went on a tangent and ended up writing a piece to practice 6th double stops (I'll post it up in the next few days). I think I made improvements without the pressure I would normally put on myself.

I think for me the biggest thing will be to focus on playing and not gear. I think I need to stick with the gear I have (which is awesome by the way.. suhr strat, gibson LP, mesa Mark V 35, suhr sl67) and focus on improving playing and singing.
What this means from a practical perspective
1) Sign up for something here on guitarmasterclass.net.. something that requires me to progress as a player.
2) Continue with my lessons I've started at truefire for acoustic guitar (fingerstyle)
3) Work on my vocals (Ken tamplin videos)
4) When I go to open "thegearpage.net" go to to guitarmasterclass.net instead and work on a lesson (pending point 1 above)
5) when I go to open "rig-talk" forums.. go to guitarmasterclass.net instead and work on a lesson (pending point 1 above)
6) work on my use of looper for my acoustic duo gigs (record my rythym loops and add solos over them.. LIVE with no prerecorded tracks)
7) long term goal - learn every song off of master of puppets on guitar
Regarding point #1 above.. any recommendations on what to do here at guitarmasterclass? I want to become a better riff/lead player.

The Gear Page is a dangerous place to frequent, I've been there for 9 years and it's cost me a lot of time and money.
