Ok here is my take. This is at 125bpm (mind that it is not with eight notes, I am doing it as Chandra did). I would like to be able to play this twice as fast sad.gif

QUICK TIP: Personally, on this type of thing I'll typically do the first two strikes as down strokes (Economic picking) then switch to strickt alternate making it an "Inside picking" lick since you'd be picking inside of two strings. Trying to do this as strick alternate from the stat, using down then up then down etc. Feels awkward IMHO, but everyone's hand is a bit different.

If you are interested, have a go at the following (always alternate picking). I would be interested to know how fast (in bpm) you can play it..

E---------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------------|
G---7-----10------9-----7------9-----10------|
D-----7-------7------7-----7------7------7---|
A---------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------|

repeat the bar as many times as possible. (notes are all quarter notes and start with a down stroke)

Todd, thanks for the tip but I don't quite understand what you are saying.. It is already an inside picking lick from the beginning if you start with a downstroke. Maybe you can post a video playing it first slowly and then fast to make it clear what you mean ?

Using Two Down Strokes for the first two notes, instead of Down then up stroke. Following that switch to strict alternate. I'll make a quick vid smile.gif

Me too. I think though Todd confused inside and outside picking. If you play the first two notes as downstroke and switch to strict AP, you end up with a lick that is played as outside picking, which I agree is more comfortable. But the point of this exercise was to practice that awkward inside picking motion.. But maybe I am wrong smile.gif maybe he means something different. We will see in the vid smile.gif

I am pretty sure he saw 4th to 3rd string so 2 downstrokes. The tab is 3rd to 4th. smile.gif

In the vid, I"m playing the low string first, thus the double down stroke. As written it's pure inside picking if you start with a down stroke.

Here it is at 130 BPM and then I switch to DOUBLE PICKING (every note twice), then QUAD PICKING (every note four times) at 200 BPM.

Inside picking seems more natural to me than outside which is why I usually use economic on ascending and alternate on descending scales.

I meant to post this last week when I first saw this thread. I tried inside and ouside AP picking ( play it 10bpm slower) and starting with a economy down stroke like with Todd's. This lick also sounded cool moving around in a Minor key giving it a neo-classical vibe. Nothing special here just played it with inside picking on a the clean channel around 130bpm. Kind of has a "hypnotic" sound to it here. biggrin.gif

Todd: Now I see why it doesn't make sense, you're playing a pickup into it - not as written. So that's what allows that method to work. If you played it as written it would be weird to do two downstrokes, and it wouldn't be down with economy picking.

Nice work on the video man!
