Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jun 2 2008, 12:42 PM

Hey guys, just wondering what technique impresses you guys the most when you see it, hope I covered alot of stuff.
Didnt touch upon to many rhythmic aspects- Later biggrin.gif

Funky triplets or skunk play for me wink.gif

Posted by: DeepRoots Jun 2 2008, 12:53 PM

8 finger tapping for me. There are some craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy tappers out there...always leaves me stunned.

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Jun 2 2008, 12:56 PM

I prefer melodic passages over anything really. Cool melodies impress me but I do like the sound when string skipping. You can create some weird sounding music smile.gif

Posted by: rokchik Jun 2 2008, 01:45 PM

I think I have to go with DeepRoots on this one. 8 finger tapping just blows my mind.

rok

Posted by: Smells Jun 2 2008, 01:59 PM

Theres probably a few on there I could tick, but I went with 8 finger tapping

Posted by: superize Jun 2 2008, 02:02 PM

I went for sweeping because i got to think of Luca Turilli and he is awsome at sweeps

Posted by: Iluha Jun 2 2008, 02:27 PM

Guitar slap has always impressed me..

Posted by: audiopaal Jun 2 2008, 02:29 PM

Many of the above impress me smile.gif

Posted by: mattacuk Jun 2 2008, 02:30 PM

Sweet alternate picking here!! But nothing impresses me more than when buckethead throws in a super slick sweep - tap ick right inthe heat of a solo - just amaizing ! biggrin.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Jun 2 2008, 02:35 PM

8 finger Tapping, the possibilities of melodies and harmonizing yourself are endless. Stuff like Bob Zabek, Chris Broderick, Stanley Jordan, just some of the most beautiful music ever.

Posted by: Fsgdjv Jun 2 2008, 02:44 PM

I picked bending. Everybody can bend, but few have really good control over their bends and can make you feel like they can do anything with bends. That's what impresses me the most.

Posted by: Old School Rocker Jun 2 2008, 02:55 PM

I would say 8 finger tapping but I voted for legato just because of Dave Murray's Amazing legato licks are just plain Wow.

Posted by: Trond Vold Jun 2 2008, 05:00 PM

I voted for "Chicken Picking/ Hybrid Picking" smile.gif Because i just cant seem to do it at all sad.gif

Posted by: Daniel Robinson Jun 2 2008, 05:07 PM

I am with Trond,

chicken pickin/hybrid picking.

Some of that stuff is just nuts! I have alot of respect for alot of country music guitar players because of this. People like Brad Paisley are just sick when it comes to stuff like this it takes so much pick control and speed to get it to sound right i am blown away by it.

Here's one more for chicken/hybrid picking. can be amazing and for me, very, very hard to learn.
There's a lot of the other options I could have ticked as well.

I'm with Iluha,
Some good guitar slapping always impressed me so much:)
For this technique, Christophe Godin is Da Man !

Posted by: Nemanja Filipovic Jun 2 2008, 05:59 PM

I like slapping, but it's not my favorite, what impress me is when I se some one who can really play guitar, not just trying to be as fast as he can.

Posted by: pat Jun 2 2008, 07:55 PM

I think the best and most effective technique is a great vibrato!
When i listen to a lesson by Marcus Lavendell i am always amazed how great his vibrato sounds and how much it adds to the feeling of the song. The other techniques are also impressive, but i think vibrato is the most important one.

Posted by: Nick325 Jun 2 2008, 07:57 PM

i said sweeping but 8 finger tapping is very impressive too

Posted by: Oxac Jun 2 2008, 08:09 PM

For me a really good clean and mastered technique impresses me the most. A really good alternate picker is as astonishing as a really good tapper. Then ofcourse, the melodies are very important if you try to impress me.

Posted by: Eat-Sleep-andJam Jun 2 2008, 08:29 PM

I voted 8 finger tapping as-well smile.gif

But I love Sweep-Taps ,Great Alt. Picking (Paul Gilbert biggrin.gif) and Guitar Slapping- most notably in Chris Feeeners Eccentric Hillbilly Entry on G-Idol.

I already voted but I noticed that you may have missed one technique unless your counting it as Alternate Picking but if not you missed Tremelo Picking (I think thats the right word unsure.gif ) I was just litening to Van Halen and it made me think about it cool.gif

Tremolo picking isn't really a technique, a style rather. It's a way to use your alternate picking.

I Picked Legato.

Esp those long smooth Legato lines with one hand just blow me away most of the time

Posted by: Muris Varajic Jun 2 2008, 09:44 PM

Can I vote for all of them?? huh.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: black and white Jun 2 2008, 09:48 PM

The technique of MURIS.................... cool.gif

I put that in the other catagory

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jun 2 2008, 10:16 PM

Complicated hybrid picking always sounds and look very cool

Posted by: Marcus Lavendell Jun 2 2008, 10:22 PM

Very interesting topic smile.gif

Must say I'm impressed by all techniques if they're performed extremely well biggrin.gif

Posted by: Canis Jun 3 2008, 10:57 AM

Out of those I like sweep, legato and 8 finger tapping. Those are insane =)

That was actually my vote too, although many of the choices impress me..
But when people get Hybrid picking right, I get dizzy biggrin.gif

Posted by: Zizi Top Jun 3 2008, 11:08 AM

Anyway i go for the guitar slapping lol

Yeah its kinda funny biggrin.gif

I dont know maybe it just takes less to impress us laugh.gif

Posted by: Danilo Capezzuto Jun 3 2008, 07:46 PM

Vibrato first, then bending! No doubt.

Posted by: Juan M. Valero Jun 3 2008, 10:09 PM

Touch technique for sure, it's a really difficult technique !!

I voted fingerpicking. A guitarist that can rock some fingerpicking is cool in my book. Anyone familiar with the band 3? Their guitar player is sick, lots of riffing and shredding and its all fingerpicked. I'm going to do a review of the opeth show I saw in a day or two and I'll give some details, but this guy stole the show guitar wise. Besides an amazing fingerpicked acoustic solo he did his style was just great. While all of these other techniques are cool, picking is about as essential and basic as you can get on a guitar, and this guy proved to me that fingerpicking can do anything that alternate picking can do and more.

+1 Great Fingerpicking is amazing, and not so easily achieved.
