Oh damn IC you beet me through it. Ive been meaning to post up Guthrie Govan- Five video for a while now. I love that guy, people compare him to Buckethead, I dont really know why.

I thought Govan's improv was pretty cool.

[edit] I can definitely hear buckethead in the improv there. It kind of sounds like a mix of buckethead and santana biggrin.gif

[edit again] and trey anastasio! Man, watching that again, that's about how I'd like to play. Not so fast that you can't distinguish specific cool parts (like the part where he was feeling it and did the guitar face that was kind of a couple of notes spaced out among a few seconds before he broke it down) beyond "oh, he threw out such and such arpeggio there" or something.

Actually those players are all rock-fusion with a larger emphasis on rock. They all do have albums and songs that are more pure fusion (Greg’s “Extraction”, Garsed’s “Uncle Moe’s”, and http://suhrguitars.com/downloads/video/wm/govan_HideandSeek.wmv), but for the most part they are more rock than jazz-fusion. Players like Allan Holdsworth and Derryl Gabel better reflect what’s considered to be fusion music.

I've been diggin Guthrie for a while now. He has become one of my favorite guitarists with his amazing combination of great melody and technical ability to do whatever the hell he wants on guitar.

Indeed, the Gambale maestro is a great example, especially his latter stuff.

Some names to look out for:

Don Mock

Larry Carlton

Lee Ritinour

Pat Metheny

John Scofield

Mike Stern

and the wonderful Robben Ford

Some of these names are more jazz than rock, and blues, but they do blend fusion in some albums so check them out!

I will hopefully be doing a feature on fusion in the future, so keep your eyes peeled blink.gif

Mahavishnu Orchestra, great jazz fusion band. John Mclaughlin is one of the best fusio, or all out guitarist, to ever exist in music. Deff underrated.

My fav jazz fusion band right now is a band called T-Square from Japan. Really great, you guys should check em out. heres a few songs
