GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Fave Historical Epic Movie

Posted by: Ben Higgins Nov 25 2012, 06:48 PM

Guys, what are your favourite 'historical' movies ? Movies that were set way back in time. They don't have to be 'real', just 'historical'.. smile.gif

Braveheart & The Last Samurai spring to mind. Also, 300 was very enjoyable. I haven't seen Troy yet, is that any good ?

I like Ben Hur (1959) with Charlton Heston. Do you know that one ?

Well...Star Wars is set way back in time if you look at the starting credits..."a long time ago in a galaxy far away" biggrin.gif

Other than that, 300, Troy (yes, it's very good! Watch it!) and even Clash of the Titans and Wrath of the Titans are among my favs. Immortals is also great.

+1 to Ben Hur, watch it as well!

Yeah, right! And what I just realized...your name is Ben!! So you have to see Ben Hur!

It is usually shown on TV around Christmas in Germany...bet it's the same in England.

Man you guys! Picking all the movies I love. Braveheart, Last Samurai, Troy, 300...

For this I shall raise all your movies add another Mel Gibson movie and a medieval film!

The Patriot and Gladiator.

Don't worry Ben, I haven't seen Ben Hur either.

i don't have fave historical epic movie..i like them all

Oh yeah, but BRAVEHEART's BEST MOVIE!!

but when it comes to older movies --> doctor schiwago

and ben hur is shown around christmas time cause of his religious theme/background....

Rob Roy is good too I think I recall.

I just saw Centurion tonight, not great. Alexander, Immortals, and Arthur are not either, but ok to watch once.

Das Boot- one of my very favorite films.

The U-boat they used to film this movie is at a museum near me. Talk about living in tight quarters!

Some other good epics that haven't been mentioned.

Tombstone
Gangs of New York
Master and Commander
Platoon

I have never seen Ben Hur... sounds like I should though.

What a classic... a lot of people who love war movies didn't like Apocalypse Now because it was a bit more cerebral than just an action movie.. but it's brilliant ! smile.gif

Thoroughly agree with Last Samurai & Braveheart!
