I don't celebrate Christmas per se, but I like food and cooking. Rather than making traditional Swedish Christmas food, I've made it a bit of my own tradition this time of the year to cook something that I normally don't cook. This year, I decided to make my first ever Shepherd's Pie:

I don't know if it's supposed to look like that, but I already had a bite:

Was it any good? Well, how bad can it be with cheese from Somerset?

(Ben is gonna be so proud!)

Show us what you are making for the holidays (or whoever does the cooking in your family)!

Edit: I figured we don't have enough food threads anymore. Are you all on diets or something?

This year we're doing sausage/venison sausage and other BBQ-type stuff with the in-laws and we're doing just a typical ham, black eyed peas, etc with my family. With wine and beer of course. And football (American).

I don't have any pictures but if you've seen one sausage/ham you've seen them all.

By the way Hungry, your Shepherds Pie looks fantastic cool.gif

My wife is making our family a traditional Ham with all the fixings. I have some nice craft beers that I'm saving for the special occasion.

Man, that Shepard's Pie looks delicious!

I'd be in for the second one as well! biggrin.gif In Romania, it's all about the pig... My people live to eat, for Christmas so, we have sausages, caltabos (a sort of minced meat, filling an animal entrail laugh.gif ), stuffed cabbage rolls, roast pork, pork jelly with garlic (I hate that one) biggrin.gif I am not into Christmas food smile.gif AT all. Except for cozonac - a traditional Romanian cake baked on this occasion!

Ha,ha....Cosmin said everything about our traditional Christmas food biggrin.gif Unfortunately he has absolutely right about "my people live to eat for Christmas". As an addition, I would say that many get to the hospital with acute indigestion after they eat all that food in one day biggrin.gif
In my case I'm not a fan for Christmas food and I keep for me the same style of eat like usual: Grilled pork with mashed potatoes, fruit salad, ice cream.......nothing special. I prefer light and healthy food smile.gif But I will cook some of things from Cosmin's list because my family come at my home at Christmas day.......so.....not everybody must eat like me wink.gif

Aye! Monica spoke the truth here - Romanian folk live to eat and especially drink - if the Romanian is happy, he will drink, if otherwise, he will drink to drown the sorrow, so it's drinking in any way possible laugh.gif For us, it's traditional to see the cases of indigestion or alcohol abuse on holidays laugh.gif Yooohooooo!

I thought the same lately. The forum ist full with guitar-related threads nowadays, and everybody seems to be talking about gear...what's that all about?

I'm at my mom's place and we had potato-salad with Bratwurst and tonight, we'll have salmon with green pasta.
Tomorrow we're gonna visit my aunt and uncle to make some meat fondue.

Actually, that yellowish layer is mashed potato, but I put a layer of cheese on top (which gives the brown color on the surface).

Stay tuned for more food!

Well, ours is cooking as we speak, so I don't have pictures of anything yet - but we're having standing rib roast (which is the meat that ribeye steaks come from) and twice baked potatoes. Will make a creamy horseradish sauce to put on the meat - my favorite meal of the year.

BTW - Those Shepherds Pies look awesome! I've never had it - but have British friends that have told me about it.

You bake the potato then when it's fully cooked, cut in halves and scrape the inside of the potato into a bowl, mix that up with sour cream, chopped onion, mushrooms, garlic, salt and pepper - then fill the skins back up with that. Then sprinkle cheese (cheddar or parmesan) on top and some bacon bits (pieces) - and put back in the oven to melt that down.

It's decadent.
