I heard it has 6 strings and 30 total frets, so that would mean the songs are on the first five frets only I guess. I think the 6 lines as the strings and whatever color the button is, is the fret you press. Maybe not so great for an advanced player, but I would think it is useful for beginners.

that looks cool

There are little numbers in the bubbles that tell you which fret, the color has just supports the fret area i think.

Sorry to be negative but at this point i would just buy a real guitar and skip the video game part.

Yes, but in this game you ARE playing with a real guitar, and you ARE learning real guitar. There is no fake involved here. I think it is great for warming up at for advanced players at least and for beginners it can teach them the basics and they can learn songs along the way to play for others.

Hmm, i still dont get that "game" thing, usually people says they cant afford real guitars, and play guitar hero, but it seems that in this one you need a real guitar so.... i'd better go for tabs/guitar pro(or ear) than spending money in a game that "would" help me learning songs. And if you think guitar pro's sound is not enough realistic you could still play along the real song you re learning biggrin.gif

Posted by: The Uncreator Feb 8 2008, 04:06 AM

This is basically what i do anyway, i pick up my guitar and play along to my favorite songs (Minus money leaving my pocket), so this just seems unnescessary to me....But i guess for beginners it might work out, still then. Why pay for a game when you could just look up some music (tabs, sheet) to get you started?

I guess these things just arent for me sad.gif

I think the idea isn't bad, it's just the fact that 5 frets sounds pretty limited to me...
Will there even be bending included? or chords?

There is 30 frets, the 6 lines represent the 6 strings and numbers appear on the button 1-5, these represent frets. Bending I'm not sure, chords probably.

Posted by: swingline Feb 8 2008, 05:40 AM

I think I'll do it the good ol' fashioned way.smile.gif

Would this mean then that it will include playing on higher frets than just 5? huh.gif

Posted by: Goliath Feb 8 2008, 07:37 PM

it can be all over the neck, I'd be curious what it does for bends and vibrato and stuff. I'd definitely check out a demo. The numbers in the bubble are the frets so basically it's like playing along with Guitar Pro but getting scored on your accuracy. It'll be great if someone hacks it to import GP5 files.

this looks really sweet i might look into buying it sometime smile.gif

Posted by: blindwillie Feb 9 2008, 03:00 PM

I will definitly buy it.

After viewing this video, I wasn't sure how Guitar Rising's notation works, so I asked GameTank. Here's the deal, according to CEO Jake Parks:

Guitar Rising has six rows which notes travel down; the six rows represent the six strings on your guitar. Inside each note is a number that tells you which guitar fret to press. For example, if a note is traveling down the top row with the number "2" inside it, this cues you to play your top guitar string with the second fret pressed down. This is in essence guitar tablature notation that moves across the screen.

But if it only uses the first 5 frets, it doesnt teach you much, Just how to use those 5 frets. And thats not too useful. Anyone know if they plan to use all 22-24 frets or whatever?

It uses all the frets on guitar. The numbers come up in the bubble that you're about to play to denote the fret to do. I think this is great as it is a way to practice songs and hhopefully a good critical evaluation on how you played the song at the end so you know if you need to improve.

Surely that is a good thing?

Posted by: The Uncreator Feb 9 2008, 05:25 PM

If it does in fact use ALL frets, then i see some merit for beginners in learning songs. for some reason, i cant find a use for this for me though sad.gif

Posted by: guitar4mylife Feb 15 2008, 09:23 PM

lol i would love to show this to all my friends who say i suck at guitar hero! i'll let them play this and see how they do laugh.gif

Posted by: Guitarman700 Feb 15 2008, 10:04 PM

Seriously!? this looks really stupid. better to spend your time actually practicing the instrument. this ranks up there with the robot guitar and the robot auto tuner. cmon people.

Posted by: DeepRoots Feb 15 2008, 10:10 PM

Ill be keeping my cash for extra gear- but i can see how this could be a fun way to get your kids intro playing guitar.

Maybe ill be buying it in 15 years then smile.gif

Once again, this is actually practicing the isntrument.

Posted by: Guitarman700 Feb 16 2008, 01:59 AM

No, its practicing the instrument with the help of a crappy computer program. in my opinion this is as bad as "Guitar hero", its just a gimmick. its like a guitar that lights up and shows you where to play. i think tiger electronics makes one of those actually. a metronome and my own creativity are all i need.

Posted by: kaznie_NL Mar 29 2008, 12:23 PM

I singed up for the newsletter from http://www.guitarrising.com because it just looks so cool@!!

Posted by: Gus Mar 29 2008, 05:39 PM

This looks promising, but let's see the final result. It seems that it is more or less trying to cope with 2 audiences: guitar hero players and real guitar players... Well, if it is like that I will wait for something for the second audience.

Anyway, I think that in near future you will be loading a guitar pro 8 file along with mp3 and will be doing serious practicing along that, and you will get information of what mistakens you are doing. Also, when you compose a lick, the program will automatically tab it for you...

Posted by: Sircraigery Apr 1 2008, 09:23 AM

I think it looks sweet.....except one BIG thing. It looks hard to see what fret you have to press. Honestly, I think its setup is really stupid. The potential is there though.

I would have the whole neck on the screen. Why do you have to have those stupid moving frets?
At least this way you'll be able to catch on easier, and have something to reference against without trying to pay attention what fret #'s are zipping past the screen, and not proper technique.

I feel too many products are out there to get someone playing too fast before they are actually ready. If they fixed things up bit on the layout, could be sweet for novice players.

If someone needs a video game to motivate him to practice and beat levels, I guess he won't get too far with his instrument anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: Juan M. Valero Apr 1 2008, 02:20 PM

seems interesting if you don't have a good equipment... but why do I need to play this game if I have a Triple Rectifier ???!! laugh.gif: lol:

Posted by: Fran Apr 1 2008, 02:44 PM

I'll probably won't ever use that software, but it seems like an interesting idea nevertheless.

Posted by: Milenkovic Ivan Apr 1 2008, 02:56 PM

Nice software, definitely wanna try sometimes smile.gif

Posted by: Rooks Aug 25 2008, 06:32 PM

I think it's good for those kids who cant leave a console / computer. . They actually leave with real guitar skills in this one compared to Guitar Hero
