Hey all of you biggrin.gif

You guys probably get these kind of questions all the time, but i tried to search around and I couldn't find what I was looking for...
I'm also kinda lazy tongue.gif

I want to start practicing the guitar again, I FINALLY got a new Jack cord!
The problem is that I was a beginner when I used to have a cord and now I have forgotten pretty much everything.
So now I was thinking of starting from scratch, and I want learn how to play Heavy metal or Thrash Metal....

So my question to you guys is what should I pay most attention to now at the beginner stage to learn as fast and most effective as possible? Like what should I start with?

Maybe you guys have some suggestion to what lessons I should start with?

I know this might sound as "Do all the work for me please guys", But I figured I would give this a shot since I know there are so many skilled guitar players here and I know I could get some great tips from this community smile.gif

So thanks in advance, I really hope you guys have the time to give me a little push rolleyes.gif

I totally agree with everything Ramiro has said but as well as practicing exercises, you should learn song you really like, even if you can only play it slowly. This will help keep your motivation up. smile.gif

Ok, here is what you need to do, IF you want to progress fast.

Focus on correct playing(correct technique) rather than on number of hours played.
Playing correctly means:
Getting the good, full tone, so pick hard, and with your left hand press strong enough to get the tone.
Play slow, and use metronom for practicing.
Don't spend too much time on technique, you'll get bored, rather learn new songs, or parts, like....riffs, solos, chords of the song.
Instead of practicing scales, arpeggios, try playing some short classical etudes, they are melodic, and some of them can be quite challenging.

Relax and don't hurry, don't force progress.
People who progress fastest are the most patient ones.

Thanks fot the tips!

I know how bored I can get sometimes when trying to learn stuff.
At the moment I'm practicing Kreator - The Patriarch, it's an awesome instrumental and it's not so hard (Well for me it is hehe) and it's not very fast either.

So I practice that along with other "boring" stuff.

Great tips you came with tho, Thanks again biggrin.gif

I can say for myself - when I'm learning a technique, am doing it for an hour so, and then go and just play something I want to. On the next day, when practicing again, suddenly I can see I've made a silence progress in that technique smile.gif

Yeah I have noticed that too... I can practice something till it doesn't makes sense anymore.
And when I try the same thing the next day I play it a lot better smile.gif

Anyone know if there exists an online metronome? Or is it better to use a "live" one?

I suggest getting a real metronome. I have a Boss DB-30 and it's awesome. It's not very expensive either (about 30€ or so).

If you don't have 30 euros, perhaps using this free metronome will help smile.gif

Every guitar player or musician should have a metronome, and there are a lot of cheap ones today on the market. I have Korg TM40, it costs like 25$, and it's the best investment that I had in last 4 years. Before that I have another model but it was not good in quality. This however is lasting still, although I carry it around a lot with me.
